Fits URC TRC-1080, TRC-820, RM-2, and R100 remotes; replaces OEM part number BTBL73386.
3.7V, 1700mAh lithium-ion cell delivers consistent IR LED output across the remote's operating range.
Battery slides into the vertical slot with polarity marked inside the compartment; verify + faces outward.
We bench-tested the BMS under repeated IR trigger cycles; cell held voltage floor above IR threshold consistently.
On first install, verify polarity alignment in the compartment—reversed orientation is the most common cause of non-function after swap.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

URC TRC-1080 / TRC-820 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BTBL73386)

This is a 3.7V, 1700mAh Li-ion battery for the URC TRC-1080, TRC-820, RM-2, and R100 programmable universal remotes. It replaces OEM part BTBL73386 directly. When the original cell has exhausted its charge cycles, this brings the remote back to full operation across all paired devices.

  • TRC-1080 and TRC-820 platform fit: Both remotes share the same internal battery bay dimensions and 3.7V single-cell architecture. The BTBL73386 connector and PCB contacts are consistent across these models, so one part number covers the group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the TRC-1080 platform. The protection circuit responded correctly to full-charge cutoff and discharged cleanly down to the low-voltage floor without triggering a premature BMS lockout.
  • Li-ion storage care for remotes left on the shelf: If this remote sits unused for weeks at a time, store the battery between 40–60% charge. A Li-ion cell left fully charged in a low-draw device loses capacity faster than one stored at mid-charge — URC remotes draw a parasitic standby current even when idle.

Why the TRC-1080 IR signal weakens before the battery reads as dead

IR LEDs in URC remotes need a minimum voltage threshold to fire at full output — typically above 3.5V for this cell chemistry. As the battery ages and its internal resistance rises, voltage sags under the brief current spike each button press demands. The remote still powers the display and registers keypresses, but the IR pulse falls short of the threshold needed to reach a TV or receiver at normal distance. Replacing the cell restores the voltage headroom the LED circuit needs.

Remote completely unresponsive after battery swap

The most common cause is reversed polarity at install — the BTBL73386 connector is keyed, but the cell can be seated incorrectly if forced. Check that the positive terminal aligns with the marked orientation inside the bay. If orientation is correct and the remote still won't respond, the protection circuit may have tripped during shipping; connect the battery to the charger for 10–15 minutes to re-initialise the BMS before retesting. The cell should read at least 3.6V on a multimeter at rest once it has recovered.

Frequently Asked Questions

My TRC-1080 worked fine yesterday but after fitting the new battery it does nothing at all — no display, no response.

Reversed polarity at the connector is the most likely cause. Even with a keyed plug, the cell can be forced in the wrong way. Reseat the battery and confirm the positive lead matches the marked terminal in the bay. If it still shows no sign of life, the protection circuit may have locked out during transit — plug in the charger for 15 minutes to wake the BMS, then retest.

The remote works but I have to point it directly at the TV from less than a metre away — never had to do that before.

This is a voltage sag problem, not a pairing issue. As a Li-ion cell ages, internal resistance climbs and the voltage dips under the brief current spike each IR pulse needs. The remote still functions at low load, but the LED can't fire at full power. If the battery you removed reads below 3.5V at rest, it has dropped below the IR output threshold — the replacement cell should restore normal operating distance immediately.

The new battery is draining noticeably faster than the original did when it was new.

Check every button on the remote for one that is physically stuck or registering a continuous press — a stuck button draws constant current and can flatten a 1700mAh cell within hours. If no button is stuck, check whether the remote is stored face-down against a surface that presses keys. A healthy BTBL73386 cell at rest should hold its charge for weeks in a low-use remote; if it drops more than 10% per day without active use, a stuck input is almost always the cause.
