Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Braven 850 / BRV-HD — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (J177/ICR18650-22PM)
This is a 7.4V 4400mAh Li-ion battery for the Braven 850 and BRV-HD portable Bluetooth speakers. It replaces the original J177/ICR18650-22PM and AE18650CM1-22-2P2S cells when the pack no longer holds a usable charge. Voltage and capacity match the original spec exactly.
- 850 and BRV-HD compatibility: Both models share the same 7.4V two-cell series configuration and identical connector pinout. The BMS handshake and charge termination voltage are the same across the range, so one pack covers either unit without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on a Braven 850 unit. The BMS accepted charge from the stock USB input without fault flags, held cell balance across both 18650 cells, and cut off cleanly at the low-voltage threshold before either cell dropped below safe limits.
- Monthly discharge cycle for desk-use speakers: If the Braven 850 sits on a desk and gets topped off constantly before dropping below 50%, run it down past 20% at least once a month before recharging. Constant shallow cycling causes the fuel gauge to drift, so the indicator reads full while actual capacity has already dropped.
Why the Braven 850 runs warm inside its fabric housing during extended play
The 850's fabric enclosure traps heat from two sources at once — the amplifier dissipates heat under sustained output, and the Li-ion cells also generate heat as they discharge under load. When both run simultaneously in still air, the internal temperature climbs faster than either source alone would cause. The BMS monitors cell temperature and will throttle or cut output if the pack reaches its thermal threshold. Using the speaker flat on a hard surface in direct sunlight accelerates this — stand it upright on a ventilated surface to let airflow move through the grille.
Audio distorting before the battery indicator reaches empty
This usually isn't a speaker fault — it's voltage sag under combined amplifier and Bluetooth radio draw. As the cells deplete, internal resistance rises, and peak current demand from the amp causes the pack voltage to momentarily dip below the amplifier's clean operating range. The amp clips the signal before the BMS reaches its low-voltage cutoff, so distortion appears while the indicator still shows charge remaining. If this happens consistently, the pack's internal resistance has likely risen from age or deep discharge damage. Charge the replacement fully to 8.4V and retest at moderate volume before assuming a hardware fault.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Braven 850 shows full charge on the indicator but audio cuts out after about an hour — is the battery dead?
Yes, the pack has likely lost usable capacity through shallow-cycle degradation. When a Li-ion pack is repeatedly topped off before dropping below 50%, the fuel gauge drifts and the indicator no longer reflects actual cell state. The speaker draws current normally until the cells hit real depletion, then cuts out abruptly. Replace the pack and run one full discharge below 20% before the first recharge to recalibrate the gauge.
Bluetooth keeps dropping specifically at high volume — the speaker was fine at low levels all day.
High volume pushes the amplifier into peak current draw, and the Bluetooth radio is pulling current at the same time. On an aged or degraded pack, that combined spike causes a voltage sag that destabilises the radio module before the amplifier faults. We saw this exact behaviour on the bench when testing cells with elevated internal resistance — the radio dropped while audio continued at low output. Fit a fresh pack; if the drops continue at high volume, the issue is in the speaker's power rail, not the battery.
The Braven 850 won't respond to the USB charge cable after it fully discharged sitting in a bag for weeks.
A pack left discharged for an extended period can drop below the minimum voltage a USB charger will accept — typically the BMS locks out charge input below around 2.5V per cell to prevent unsafe recovery. The charger connects but passes no current, so the speaker stays dark. Some packs recover with a brief pre-charge pulse; if the indicator shows nothing after 30 minutes on a known-good cable and adapter, the cells have self-discharged past recovery and the pack needs replacement.
