Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

JBL Authentics 300 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (C1146A9)

This 3.7V, 5200mAh Li-ion cell replaces the original C1146A9 battery in the JBL Authentics 300 smart home speaker. It restores wireless portability when the original pack degrades, loses capacity, or stops holding a charge. Dimensions are 72.00 × 38.50 × 20.90mm — confirm these against your existing cell before ordering.

  • Authentics 300 cell compatibility: The Authentics 300 runs a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion configuration with a proprietary BMS handshake. This replacement matches that voltage rail and connector pinout, so the onboard protection circuit communicates with the cell correctly and accepts a charge without throwing a fault.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Authentics 300 platform. The BMS registered the cell correctly, charge termination triggered at the expected cutoff voltage, and the protection circuit tripped cleanly under simulated fault conditions.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration after swap: After fitting a new cell, the Authentics 300 fuel gauge can misread state of charge because it was calibrated to the old, degraded pack. Run the speaker down until it shuts off on low battery, then charge to 100% in a single uninterrupted session — this resets the gauge baseline so the indicator reads accurately.

Audio distorting before the battery indicator reaches empty

As the cell discharges toward its lower cutoff, internal resistance rises and the voltage sags under amplifier load. The Authentics 300's Class D amplifier draws sharp current spikes at higher volumes, and those spikes pull cell voltage below the clean-audio threshold before the fuel gauge reads empty. The result is clipping and distortion — not a speaker driver fault. Reducing volume by 20–30% at low charge levels keeps the cell above the sag threshold and clears the distortion without any hardware change.

Speaker won't wake from USB-C when the pack has been fully drained

If the Authentics 300 sits unused until the cell fully self-discharges, the cell voltage can fall below the USB-C PD minimum acceptance threshold — typically around 2.5V. At that point the charger and the speaker's protection circuit cannot negotiate a handshake, and the speaker appears completely dead on USB-C. Connect the original cable and leave it for 15–20 minutes without pressing any buttons — the BMS uses a trickle pre-charge routine to bring the cell back up to a voltage where normal PD negotiation can resume, after which charging proceeds normally.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Authentics 300 shows a full battery but the audio cuts out after about an hour of use — is that a speaker fault or the battery?

That's a battery fault, not the speaker. The fuel gauge drifted out of calibration against a degraded cell, so it reports full when the actual stored charge is much lower. After fitting a new cell, run the speaker completely flat until it shuts itself off, then charge uninterrupted to 100% — that single full cycle resets the gauge and the hour-long cutout stops.

The Bluetooth on my Authentics 300 keeps dropping when I push the volume up, but holds fine at low volume — what's happening?

At high volume the amplifier draws sharp current spikes, and those spikes combine with the Bluetooth radio's continuous draw to sag cell voltage sharply. If the cell is aged or has high internal resistance, voltage drops far enough that the radio resets mid-transmission. A fresh 3.7V cell with low internal resistance holds voltage stable under that combined load — check that the replacement cell sits at or above 3.6V at rest before fitting it.

My Authentics 300 battery fades noticeably faster now even though I keep it charged on my desk — what causes that?

Constant top-off charging — plugging in before the cell drops below 50% — is the cause. Li-ion cells accumulate stress cycles faster when they never discharge deeply, and the fuel gauge drifts because it never sees a full range of charge states to calibrate against. To slow that fade, let the speaker discharge below 20% at least once a month before plugging back in — that gives the BMS a full reference point and reduces the shallow-cycle stress that compresses capacity over time.
