This happens when a degraded cell can no longer sustain 7.4V under peak amplifier load — the voltage sags below the threshold the amp needs for clean output before the BMS trips the low-battery warning. The result is clipping and distortion at normal speaking volumes, even though the indicator still shows charge remaining. It is a voltage-delivery problem, not an audio hardware fault. A fresh cell holding steady above 7.0V under load eliminates the distortion immediately.

Some warmth is expected — the amplifier and the DECT radio both generate heat, and the battery adds discharge heat in the same enclosed housing. If the unit is hot to the touch rather than just warm, a degraded cell is working harder to sustain voltage under load and generating excess heat in the process. Check the resting voltage after a full charge — a healthy pack should read between 8.3V and 8.4V. A cell reading below 8.0V after a full cradle charge is failing and should be replaced.
