Fits Defelsko PosiTest AT-A and ATA20 adhesion testers; replaces OEM part HHR-17670.
7.2V 3600mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers sustained power for pull-off load cycles and probe initialization without voltage sag.
Slides into vertical battery slot with polarity-coded connector; push latch locks pack flush against instrument housing.
We bench-tested this cell under sustained probe load; BMS remained stable across five consecutive measurement sequences without early cutoff.
After installing, run a full calibration cycle through the PosiTest menu before field use — the instrument maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step triggers false low-battery warnings mid-session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Defelsko PosiTest AT-A / ATA20 — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (HHR-17670)

This 7.2V 3600mAh Ni-MH battery replaces part number HHR-17670 in the Defelsko PosiTest AT-A and ATA20 adhesion testers. These are handheld pull-off adhesion instruments used in coating inspection and quality control work. The battery slots into the grip housing and powers the motorised actuator, display, and onboard data logging.

  • PosiTest AT-A and ATA20 compatibility: Both units run the same 7.2V battery rail and use the same connector orientation and BMS handshake protocol — one pack covers both variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through repeated actuator cycles on the AT-A. The BMS held voltage steady through the motor-start surge at pull-off initiation and did not trip under the combined actuator and display draw during multi-point logging sessions.
  • Post-install calibration before field use: After fitting this battery, run a full calibration cycle through the PosiTest AT-A instrument menu before taking it to site. The instrument maps battery state during that calibration sequence — skipping it causes premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session in the field.

BMS lockout after the PosiTest AT-A sat unused in a carry case for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge continuously, even in storage. If the PosiTest AT-A sat in a case long enough, the pack voltage can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 5.0V for a 7.2V Ni-MH pack. At that point the BMS locks the output circuit and the instrument will not power on, even on charge. A slow pre-charge at low current (0.1C or lower) for 30–60 minutes usually recovers the cells enough for the BMS to release and allow normal charging to resume.

Instrument shuts down mid-pull during adhesion testing

The motorised actuator in the AT-A draws a sharp current spike at the moment of pull-off initiation. On a depleted or degraded cell, this spike causes a voltage sag that crosses the BMS undervoltage cutoff threshold — the instrument shuts off mid-test and logs an incomplete data point. This is not a firmware fault. Charge the battery fully before a test session and check resting voltage: a healthy pack should read at or above 7.2V at rest before use.

Frequently Asked Questions

The PosiTest AT-A won't turn on after sitting in the case all winter — is the battery dead?

Not necessarily dead, but the Ni-MH pack has self-discharged below the BMS recovery threshold after months of storage. Put the battery on charge and leave it for at least an hour before attempting to power on the instrument — the BMS needs time to detect enough cell voltage to release the output lock. If the charger shows no activity after 90 minutes, the pack has dropped too low for standard charging and needs a slow pre-charge at 0.1C to recover; check resting voltage first and confirm it reads above 5.0V before proceeding.

The AT-A display shows full battery at power-on but shuts off after two or three pull tests — what's happening?

The display is reading resting cell voltage, which looks fine until the motorised actuator fires. The pull-off motor draws a sharp current spike that sags voltage across aged or cold cells — enough to trip the BMS undervoltage cutoff mid-test. This is a cell-condition issue, not a display fault. Fit a fresh pack and confirm resting voltage reads at or above 7.2V before starting a test session.

Readings are drifting and the instrument reset itself partway through a multi-point logging session — what caused that?

Sustained sensor load during a long logging session pulls steady current from the pack, and if the cells are partially depleted, voltage droops progressively across the session. When voltage dips below the instrument's operating threshold, the AT-A resets to protect the data circuit — logged points before the reset are usually retained, but the session is broken. Charge fully before any extended logging run and monitor the battery indicator after the first few measurements; if it drops faster than expected, replace the pack before continuing the session.
