Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

iGuide IMS-5 — 14.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (ND2054)
This is a 14.4V 3400mAh lithium-ion battery for the iGuide IMS-5 survey instrument. It replaces OEM part number ND2054. The IMS-5 is a professional field measurement device, and this pack restores full operating voltage to the instrument's power rail.
- IMS-5 power rail compatibility: The IMS-5 runs a 14.4V nominal rail with a BMS handshake that checks cell count and voltage signature at power-on. This pack uses the same 4S Li-ion cell arrangement and connector pinout as the OEM unit, so the instrument clears that handshake and boots normally.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through power-on cycles and sustained sensor load draws. The BMS held stable under the current spike at probe initialisation and did not trip into protective cutoff during logging sessions.
- First-use calibration cycle: After installing this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the IMS-5 instrument menu before field deployment. The instrument maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session, even when the pack is fully charged.
BMS cutoff when the IMS-5 probe module initialises
When the IMS-5 powers up a connected probe module, the instrument draws a short, sharp current spike to initialise the sensor. A degraded or deeply discharged pack can drop below the BMS undervoltage threshold during that spike, tripping protective cutoff before the instrument even reaches its home screen. This is a battery-side failure, not a probe fault. A fully charged pack at 16.4V should absorb that spike without the BMS cutting out.
IMS-5 showing inconsistent battery percentage after every reboot
When you swap in a new Li-ion pack, the IMS-5's voltage-threshold indicator has no charge history to work from and estimates state-of-charge from resting voltage alone. This produces erratic percentage readings — often jumping between values across reboots — until the instrument logs a full discharge and recharge cycle. Run the pack down through normal field use, then charge it fully without interruption. After that cycle, the percentage display stabilises.

Frequently Asked Questions
The IMS-5 shuts off the moment I attach a probe module, even with a full charge showing — what's happening?
Probe initialisation pulls a sharp current spike, and if the pack's internal resistance is high enough, voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold in that instant. The instrument interprets this as an undervoltage event and shuts down before the probe handshake completes. Charge the new pack fully to 16.4V before attaching any probe module — a resting full charge lowers internal resistance enough to absorb the spike without tripping cutoff.
The IMS-5 powers on fine but resets or loses its logged data partway through a measurement session — is the battery causing this?
Yes. Under sustained sensor load, a cell with degraded capacity produces a voltage dropout that briefly falls outside the instrument's operating window. The IMS-5 interprets this as a power interruption and resets the active session. This is different from a full shutdown — the instrument comes back, but the session data is lost. Check the pack voltage under load; if it sags below 13.0V during active logging, the pack is not holding its charge under draw.
This replacement pack sat in a drawer for several months before I needed it — now the IMS-5 won't recognise it at all. How do I recover it?
Li-ion cells self-discharge over storage, and if the pack dropped below roughly 10V total, the BMS enters a sleep state and blocks charge input to prevent damage. The IMS-5 won't see the pack because the BMS is not responding on the communication line. Place the pack on a Li-ion charger that supports a recovery or "wake" mode — this applies a low precharge current to bring cell voltage above the BMS recovery threshold, typically 12V, at which point the BMS re-initialises and the instrument will recognise the pack normally.
