Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Franklin Celltron Ultra / Grid C090 Ultra — 9.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (125-0036)
This is a 9.6V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Franklin Celltron Ultra and Grid C090 Ultra professional surveying and testing instruments. It matches OEM part numbers 125-0036 and 125-0036 REV C. Voltage and cell count are identical to the original pack.
- Celltron Ultra and Grid C090 Ultra compatibility: Both instruments share the same 9.6V eight-cell NiMH architecture and connector pinout. The battery management handshake uses the same thermal cutoff line, so one pack covers both platforms without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the Celltron Ultra's instrument-side charge controller and confirmed the thermistor line communicates correctly at all three charge stages. The BMS held cutoff at the correct peak-delta-V threshold across repeated cycles.
- Post-install calibration cycle: After fitting this pack, run a full calibration sequence through the instrument menu before field deployment. The Celltron Ultra maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes the low-battery warning to trigger early on the first measurement session, even with a full charge.
BMS lockout after the instrument sat unused in a carry case for months
NiMH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. After several months in storage, the pack voltage can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 7.2V on a 9.6V pack — and the protection circuit latches off. The instrument either shows nothing on power-up or briefly flickers and shuts down. To recover, connect the pack to a NiMH-capable charger that supports a trickle pre-charge mode; this brings cell voltage up slowly until the BMS re-initialises, usually within 20–40 minutes of trickle current at 0.1C.
Celltron Ultra shutting down the moment a probe or sensor module initialises
Probe modules draw a short current spike at power-up as their internal circuits initialise — on the Celltron Ultra this can briefly exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold on a partially discharged or cold pack. The BMS interprets this spike as a fault and cuts output, even though the battery itself has adequate charge remaining. Cold temperatures make this worse because NiMH internal resistance rises sharply below 10°C. Bring the instrument to room temperature before powering on, and ensure the pack is above 9.0V before connecting an external probe module.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Celltron Ultra powers on fine but resets or loses its reading partway through a logging session — is this the battery?
Yes, and the cause is voltage sag under sustained sensor load. NiMH cells drop output voltage progressively as discharge deepens, and the Celltron Ultra's processor resets when supply voltage dips below its minimum operating threshold mid-session. This is distinct from a full shutdown — you'll see data loss or a reboot rather than a blank screen. Charge the pack fully and confirm resting voltage reads at least 9.4V before starting a logging run.
The new pack won't take a charge — the instrument's charging indicator never activates after I fit it.
This usually means the pack arrived below the BMS recovery voltage after transit and storage. The Celltron Ultra's onboard charger requires the pack to present above approximately 7.5V before it initiates a charge cycle. Connect the pack to a standalone NiMH charger with a pre-charge or recovery mode first; once cell voltage climbs above that threshold, the instrument's own charger will recognise the pack normally. Do not leave it on the bench charger unattended for the first session — confirm the charge indicator activates within 10 minutes.
The battery percentage on the Celltron Ultra display jumps around erratically after I installed this replacement — one reboot shows 80%, the next shows 20%.
The Celltron Ultra uses a voltage-threshold method to estimate charge level, and a new pack's voltage curve differs slightly from a worn original until the cells are broken in. The instrument's stored thresholds are calibrated to the old pack's worn curve, so readings are inconsistent for the first few cycles. Run two or three full charge-and-use cycles through normal field operation, then perform the calibration sequence in the instrument menu. After calibration against the new pack's curve, the percentage indicator stabilises.
