Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hi-Target ihand 30 Data Controller — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BLP-5200S)
This is a 3.7V, 4000mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Hi-Target ihand 30 data controller. The ihand 30 is a field data controller used in geodetic and construction surveying. It replaces OEM part BLP-5200S directly, matching the original voltage, connector, and BMS communication profile.
- ihand 30 platform fit: The ihand 30 runs a dedicated BMS handshake that monitors cell voltage and communicates charge state to the firmware. This pack matches that handshake — voltage rail, connector pinout, and protection circuit all align with the original spec. Substituting a generic 3.7V pack without the correct BMS profile causes the device to reject the battery or report incorrect charge state.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge sequences on the ihand 30, monitoring BMS cutoff behaviour at both ends. The protection circuit engaged cleanly at high-side voltage and recovered correctly from low-side cutoff without requiring a manual reset.
- Post-install calibration on the ihand 30: After fitting a new pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before deploying to the field. The ihand 30 maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings during the first survey session, even when the pack is fully charged.
BMS lockout after the ihand 30 sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-ion cells in a stored pack self-discharge slowly. If the ihand 30 sat unused long enough, cell voltage can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. Below that threshold, the BMS enters a locked state and the device will not power on, even when connected to a charger. To recover, connect the pack to a charger that supports trickle or pre-charge mode and leave it for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on the instrument. If the pack fails to recover above 3.0V per cell after an extended trickle charge, the cells have degraded past recovery and the pack needs replacement.
ihand 30 display showing an inconsistent battery percentage after reboot
When a new pack goes in, the ihand 30's charge indicator recalibrates its voltage-threshold mapping to the new cells. Until that calibration completes, the percentage display jumps — showing 80% one boot, 55% the next, with no actual discharge between sessions. This is not a fault in the battery. Run the instrument through at least one complete charge and discharge cycle, then perform the calibration sequence in the instrument menu. After that, the display stabilises and tracks correctly against the new pack's actual capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions
The ihand 30 powers on fine but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to the PC — is the battery the cause?
USB data transfer on the ihand 30 adds a combined load — active screen, processor, and USB bus simultaneously drawing from the pack. An aged or partially discharged battery can't hold voltage under that combined draw, so the BMS trips the low-voltage cutoff and the device shuts off. A new pack at full charge handles the combined load without voltage sag. Charge the replacement pack fully, run the post-install calibration cycle, then retry the transfer.
My ihand 30 readings drifted and then the screen reset mid-logging session — what's happening at the battery level?
Under sustained sensor load during a logging session, an ageing pack develops voltage dropout — the cell voltage sags below what the instrument needs to hold stable operation. The ihand 30 interprets that voltage drop as a fault condition and resets the display to recover. This is different from a full shutdown — the instrument stays on but loses the active session. Check cell resting voltage after a full charge; if it reads below 3.9V at rest, the pack no longer holds capacity and needs replacement.
This replacement battery won't charge after I installed it — the ihand 30 shows no charge indicator at all.
If the pack shipped in a deep-discharged state, the BMS may have entered sleep mode below the recovery threshold. Connect the ihand 30 to its original charger and leave it untouched for 30–45 minutes — the charger's pre-charge stage will push enough current through to wake the BMS. Once the charge indicator appears on screen, the pack has recovered and is charging normally. If no indicator appears after 60 minutes, check that the connector is fully seated and the charging contacts are clean.
