Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Hi-Target ZTS-120 Total Station — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BT10)
This is a 7.4V, 2600mAh Li-ion replacement for the Hi-Target BT10 battery pack. It fits the ZTS-120, ZTS-120R, and related total station variants used in land surveying and construction layout. Voltage and cell chemistry match the original spec exactly.
- ZTS-120 and ZTS-120R compatibility: These models share the same 7.4V battery rail, BT10 connector footprint, and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping between variants on-site is straightforward — the instrument reads the pack identically across the series.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge-discharge sequences and monitored BMS cutoff response under simulated sensor initialisation loads. The protection circuit held within the expected voltage window without nuisance trips during angle-measurement and tracking sequences.
- Post-install calibration cycle: After fitting this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the ZTS-120 instrument menu before heading to site. The instrument maps battery state during that routine. Skipping it causes premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session, even with a fully charged pack.
BMS lockout on the ZTS-120 after the pack sat unused in a carry case
Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly in storage. If a BT10-type pack drops below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS trips into a protective sleep state and the instrument will not power on — even when connected to a charger. The charger sees the pack as absent or faulty because the BMS is blocking the charge path. A slow pre-charge or trickle mode on a compatible Li-ion charger is usually enough to push the cell voltage back above the BMS recovery threshold, at which point normal charging resumes.
Angle readings resetting mid-session while battery indicator still shows charge
This happens when sustained EDM or motorised drive load pulls the pack voltage below the ZTS-120's internal reset threshold — even briefly. The display may still show a battery percentage because the voltage-threshold indicator hasn't fully recalculated yet. The root cause is cell voltage sag under load, not remaining capacity. Check resting voltage with a multimeter: a healthy pack at partial charge should read above 7.2V at rest. If it reads below that after a short session, the cells have degraded and the pack needs replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
My ZTS-120 won't power on after the new BT10 battery sat in storage — the charger light just blinks and stops. What's happening?
The pack's BMS has entered sleep mode after dropping below the minimum cell recovery voltage — typically around 2.5V per cell. The charger is seeing a blocked charge path and giving up. Use a Li-ion charger with a trickle or recovery mode, which applies a low current to nudge the cell voltage back above the BMS wake threshold. Once the BMS re-initialises, the charger will switch to its normal charging profile and the instrument will power on.
The ZTS-120 shuts down mid-measurement but powers back on immediately — what's causing it?
This is a voltage sag cutoff. The EDM pulse or motorised drive draws a current spike the depleted cells can't sustain, and the BMS trips the output to protect the pack. It's not a connector fault. Check the resting voltage after a full charge — it should read at least 8.3V. If it reads below 8.0V straight off the charger, the cells are no longer holding a full charge and the pack should be replaced before your next field session.
The ZTS-120 powers on and shows full battery, but angle and distance readings drift and reset during a logging session — is that the battery?
Yes. Sustained sensor load during a logging sequence causes the cell voltage to sag intermittently, which dips below the instrument's operating floor and triggers a partial reset of the measurement registers — even if the display percentage hasn't changed yet. The percentage indicator lags behind real voltage under load. Run the calibration cycle from the instrument menu with the new pack before deploying to site; this lets the ZTS-120 map the actual voltage curve of the new cells and report battery state more accurately under field load.
