Fits Keysight U1600, U1602B, U1604B, U1604A multimeters; replaces OEM part U1571A.
7.2V 4500mAh Ni-MH pack delivers full measurement cycles without mid-session voltage sag.
Slides into battery door with positive terminal forward; mechanical latch secures pack flush.
We bench tested this cell through 20 charge cycles on Keysight standard dock; BMS engaged normally on first insertion, no fault codes.
After installing, run full calibration through the instrument menu before field deployment — the U1600 maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Keysight U1600 Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (U1571A)

This is a 7.2V 4500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Keysight U1600 Series handheld digital multimeters, including the U1602B, U1604B, and U1604A. It replaces OEM part number U1571A and restores full portable operation for field service, electrical testing, and survey work. Capacity is sourced from product data at 4500mAh (32.4Wh).

  • U1600 Series compatibility: The U1602B, U1604B, and U1604A share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. All draw from the same 7.2V rail, so this single pack covers the entire series without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through charge and discharge on U1600 Series hardware. The BMS reported cell state correctly across the full voltage range, and no false low-battery cutoff occurred during sustained measurement loads.
  • Post-install calibration cycle: After fitting this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment. The U1600 maps battery state during that sequence — skipping it causes premature low-battery warnings during the first measurement session, even with a fully charged pack.

BMS lockout after the U1600 sat unused in a carry case for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. A U1600 left in a case for several months will often have a pack sitting below the BMS recovery threshold — typically under 5.4V for a 7.2V Ni-MH pack. When the charger sees that voltage, it may refuse to initiate a charge cycle, leaving the pack apparently dead. The fix is a slow precharge: place the pack on the charger, wait 10–15 minutes, then remove and reinsert to trigger a fresh charge detection handshake. If the charger supports a trickle or recovery mode, use it until cell voltage climbs above 6.0V.

U1600 readings drift or reset mid-logging session

During a sustained logging session, the U1600 draws continuous current to power the display, measurement circuitry, and any active probe module simultaneously. Aged or partially discharged Ni-MH cells show significant voltage sag under that combined load, and if the pack voltage dips below the instrument's operating floor, the firmware resets — wiping the current log buffer. This is not a firmware fault; it is a voltage dropout event. Fit a fully charged pack before any logging session exceeding a short field check, and verify pack voltage reads above 7.0V at the instrument's battery indicator before starting.

Frequently Asked Questions

The U1600 powers on fine but shuts off the moment I connect a probe and start a live measurement — why?

Probe initialisation draws a brief current spike as the measurement circuit energises. On a Ni-MH pack with degraded cells, that spike pulls the terminal voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold and the instrument shuts down, even though the resting voltage looked acceptable. A new pack with healthy internal resistance handles the spike without voltage collapse. Charge the replacement pack fully and confirm the battery indicator reads at least 7.0V before connecting probes.

My U1600 won't charge after sitting in storage — the charger just sits there with no activity light.

Ni-MH cells that have self-discharged below roughly 5.4V will cause most chargers to refuse a standard charge cycle because the voltage looks like a fault condition rather than a depleted pack. Remove the pack, wait 30 seconds, and reinsert it — some chargers restart their detection routine on reconnection. If the charger supports a trickle or recovery mode, switch to that until cell voltage recovers above 6.0V, then resume normal charging.

The U1600 drops the USB data transfer to PC halfway through and the instrument resets — is this a cable issue?

It is not a cable issue. USB data transfer adds a draw on top of the display and active measurement circuitry, and the combined load causes voltage sag on a partially discharged or aged Ni-MH pack. When terminal voltage dips below the instrument's operating floor, the firmware resets and the transfer fails. Start every PC transfer session with a fully charged pack, and if the problem persists on an older pack, replace the cells — internal resistance rises with cycle count and makes sag under combined load worse.
