Fits Keysight U1610A and U1620A digital multimeters; replaces OEM battery NF2040XD or U1572A.
10.8V, 5200mAh capacity delivers full power for voltage, current, and resistance measurements during extended field diagnostics without mid-session dropouts.
Connector slides straight into the battery slot with a positive locking tab; orientation is keyed and will not force if misaligned.
We ran load tests under sustained probe initialization and sensor polling — BMS held steady at 10.8V through the current spike without cutoff.
After installing, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment — the U1610A maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on your first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Keysight U1610A / U1620A — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (NF2040XD)

This 10.8V Li-ion battery replaces the OEM NF2040XD pack in the Keysight U1610A and U1620A digital multimeters. Capacity is 5200mAh (56.16Wh). Both instruments share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol, so one part covers both models.

  • U1610A and U1620A compatibility: Both meters run the same 10.8V three-cell Li-ion architecture with identical BMS handshake requirements. The pack must respond to the instrument's state-of-charge polling or the meter flags a battery fault and limits operation.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through full charge and discharge cycles on U1610A hardware. The BMS handled probe initialisation current spikes cleanly and maintained output voltage within the instrument's operating window throughout sustained measurement loads.
  • Calibration cycle before first field use: After installing this pack, run a full calibration sequence through the instrument's menu before taking it to site. The U1610A maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes the low-battery indicator to trigger early during the first measurement session, even with a fully charged pack.

BMS lockout after the U1610A sat unused in a carry case for months

Li-ion cells self-discharge over time. If the pack drops below approximately 2.5V per cell during storage, the BMS trips into deep-discharge protection and the instrument will not respond to a normal charge cycle — the charger sees too low a voltage and refuses to engage. Recovery requires a compatible charger with a pre-charge or trickle-charge mode that can bring cell voltage up to around 3.0V per cell before the BMS releases the lockout. Once voltage recovers past that threshold, a standard charge cycle completes normally and cell balance restores.

Readings drifting or logging session resetting mid-capture

Sustained sensor loads during a logging session draw more current than single-point measurements. If the pack has aged or cells are unbalanced, voltage sags under that continuous draw and the instrument's internal regulator drops out briefly — enough to interrupt the logging buffer and reset the session. The symptom looks like a software glitch but traces back to pack voltage dropping below the regulator's hold-up threshold. Check pack voltage under load with a second meter; a healthy pack should hold above 10.0V during active logging. Replace the pack if voltage falls below that under load.

Frequently Asked Questions

My U1610A won't power on after the battery sat in the instrument for three months — is the pack dead?

Likely not dead, but the BMS has tripped into deep-discharge protection after self-discharge brought cell voltage too low. A standard charger will refuse to engage at that voltage. Use a charger with a trickle or pre-charge mode to bring each cell back above 3.0V, then switch to a normal charge cycle. If the instrument responds after a full charge, the pack is recoverable.

The U1610A shuts down the moment I connect the high-current clamp probe — fully charged battery, happens every time.

The clamp probe draws a sharp current spike at initialisation, and if the BMS's overcurrent threshold is set conservatively, it trips the protection circuit and cuts output. We saw this on the bench when the probe powered up under a resistive load. The fix is to connect the probe before powering on the instrument, so the BMS sees the combined load from a standing start rather than a sudden spike mid-operation. If the shutdown persists, check that the BMS has fully reset by removing the pack for 30 seconds before reinserting.

My U1610A shows full battery on the display, then the percentage jumps to 15% after one measurement — why?

The instrument's state-of-charge indicator is calibrated to the voltage curve of the original pack. A new replacement cell has a slightly different open-circuit voltage at full charge, and the meter's threshold map hasn't adjusted yet. Run a complete charge and discharge cycle through the instrument — not through an external charger — so the U1610A can remap its voltage thresholds to the new cells. After one full cycle the percentage reading stabilises and tracks accurately through subsequent sessions.
