Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Olympus 38DL Plus Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (38-BAT)
This 10.8V, 3400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the OEM 38-BAT pack in the Olympus 38DL Plus Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge. The 38DL Plus is a handheld thickness measurement instrument used in industrial inspection, pipeline surveys, and corrosion monitoring. It draws sustained current through its probe circuit during active measurement sessions, so stable voltage delivery matters.
- 38DL Plus and Epoch 4 compatibility: The 38-BAT form factor is shared across the 38DL Plus and Epoch 4 platform. Both instruments use the same 10.8V three-cell configuration, the same connector pinout, and the same BMS communication handshake — which is why one pack covers both.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through probe initialisation cycles and sustained measurement loads. The BMS held voltage within spec across repeated transducer power-up events and did not trip during continuous logging sequences.
- Calibration cycle after install: After fitting this battery, run a full calibration cycle through the 38DL Plus instrument menu before heading to site. The gauge maps battery state during calibration — skipping it causes premature low-battery warnings to appear during your first active measurement session, even with a full charge.
BMS cutoff when the 38DL Plus probe initialises
When the 38DL Plus powers up its transducer, the probe circuit draws a sharp current spike in the first half-second of initialisation. A weakened or deeply discharged cell can drop below the BMS undervoltage threshold at that exact moment, causing an immediate shutdown that looks like a dead battery. This is a protection trip, not a failed pack. Charge the battery fully to 12.6V before the next power cycle and the BMS will reset automatically.
Readings resetting or dropping out mid-logging session
During long data-logging runs, the 38DL Plus sustains continuous power to the probe, the display, and the internal memory write circuit simultaneously. If the cell voltage sags under that combined load — typically below 9.5V per cell group — the instrument resets its active session to protect stored data. This is a voltage-sag event, not a firmware fault. A freshly charged pack at 12.6V eliminates the sag and keeps the session stable from start to finish.

Frequently Asked Questions
My 38DL Plus won't recognise this new battery after it sat in the carry case for months — the screen just stays blank.
A pack that has sat unused drops below the BMS recovery threshold, typically under 9V, and the protection circuit locks the cell out entirely. The instrument sees no voltage on the connector and treats it as no battery present. Connect the pack to a compatible Li-ion charger and hold it on charge for at least 30 minutes before inserting it into the gauge — most BMS circuits re-initialise once voltage climbs back above 10V.
The 38DL Plus shuts off every time I plug in the USB cable to transfer data to my laptop — battery was showing half charge.
USB data transfer adds a second active draw on top of the display and probe standby current. If the cells are below around 10.5V at rest, that combined load pulls voltage down far enough for the BMS to trip. This is not a fault with the port or the cable. Charge the battery fully to 12.6V first, then run the USB transfer — the extra headroom keeps voltage above the BMS cutoff threshold throughout the session.
The battery percentage on the 38DL Plus jumps around at startup — shows 80%, then drops to 40% after one measurement.
The 38DL Plus uses a voltage-threshold indicator to estimate charge state, not a tracked coulomb counter. When a new cell is installed, the gauge has no prior reference and maps the first few voltage readings against its internal table. The display stabilises after two or three full charge-discharge cycles as the instrument builds an accurate picture of the new cell's voltage curve. Run the calibration cycle from the instrument menu after each of the first two full charges to accelerate this process.
