Fits Righton Retinomax 2 and Retinomax II autorefractors; replaces OEM battery CS-PMB02SL.
6V 2100mAh Ni-MH pack delivers stable voltage during objective refraction cycles without mid-measurement dropout.
Battery slides into the rear compartment with a friction-fit plastic tongue; no locking tab or connector.
We bench-tested this cell in a Retinomax 2 through five full measurement sequences — BMS held steady at rated capacity with no early cutoff events.
After installing this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment; the autorefractor maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on the first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Righton Retinomax 2 / Retinomax II — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This 6V 2100mAh Ni-MH pack replaces the internal battery in the Righton Retinomax 2 and Retinomax II portable autorefractors. These handheld devices are used for objective refraction measurement in optometry and ophthalmology settings. Capacity is 2100mAh (12.6Wh) — taken from product data, not estimated.

  • Retinomax 2 and Retinomax II compatibility: Both models use the same battery bay geometry, connector orientation, and 6V cell configuration. The BMS in each unit expects the same charge termination behaviour — delta-V cutoff — which Ni-MH cells deliver natively. No connector modification needed.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the Retinomax charge circuit and confirmed the onboard charger reached full termination without fault codes. The BMS accepted the pack without a handshake error on first insertion.
  • Post-install calibration cycle: After fitting this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before using it on patients. The Retinomax maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings to fire during the first measurement session, even with a full charge.

BMS lockout after the Retinomax sat unused in a carry case for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge over time. If the Retinomax was stored with the original pack installed, that pack may have discharged below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 4.5V for a 6V Ni-MH pack. A replacement pack avoids this entirely because it ships with enough residual charge to wake the charge circuit. Insert the new pack, connect the charger immediately, and let the instrument complete a full charge cycle before powering on.

Retinomax shuts down mid-measurement with no low-battery warning

This happens when the measurement routine triggers the illumination and motor systems simultaneously, pulling a short current spike the aged cell can no longer sustain. Voltage sags briefly below the BMS cutoff threshold and the unit shuts off — not because capacity is gone, but because internal cell resistance has risen enough that peak demand can't be met. A fresh pack with lower internal resistance handles the spike without voltage drooping past cutoff. After fitting the new pack, verify resting voltage reads at or above 6.0V before your first patient session.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Retinomax powers on fine but cuts out the moment I start a refraction measurement — why?

The measurement routine fires the illumination source and drive motor at the same time, which creates a short current spike. If the cell's internal resistance has risen with age, voltage sags past the BMS cutoff threshold and the unit shuts off instantly — even if the battery indicator looked fine. A new pack handles that peak draw without the voltage drop. Confirm resting pack voltage is at or above 6.0V before fitting.

The Retinomax won't recognise the new pack after the instrument sat in storage — no charge activity at all.

The original pack likely self-discharged below the BMS recovery voltage during storage, and the charge circuit is looking for a minimum voltage it isn't seeing. Insert the replacement pack, connect the charger without powering the instrument on first, and hold for at least 15 minutes — the charger needs to see voltage above roughly 4.5V before it enters normal charge mode. Once the charge indicator activates, let it run to full termination before use.

My Retinomax readings drift or reset partway through a logging session even though the battery was fully charged at the start.

This is a sustained-load voltage dropout issue, not a capacity problem. Under continuous sensor and display load over a long session, an ageing cell's terminal voltage dips enough to cause the instrument's processor to reset or lose measurement state — even without a full shutdown. A fresh pack with full capacity and low internal resistance holds voltage steady under that sustained draw. After fitting the new pack, run the post-install calibration cycle through the instrument menu so the Retinomax recalibrates its voltage thresholds to the new cells.
