Fits Sonel LKZ-1500 cable detector; replaces OEM part numbers WAAKU23, AKU-23, and AA2006BT.
6V 2000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers stable voltage output across the full measurement cycle without sag that triggers false low-battery warnings during active cable detection.
Battery slides into the pack compartment below the LKZ-1500 display panel with a positive contact at the rear slot; sliding latch locks flush against the case frame.
We bench-tested this cell in the LKZ-1500 under sustained probe operation; BMS handled the current draw without cutoff and voltage held steady across a full detection sweep.
After installing this pack, run the instrument's self-test sequence from the menu before field work—Ni-MH cells require the LKZ-1500 to recalibrate its voltage baseline on first boot with a new battery.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Sonel LKZ-1500 Cable Detector — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (WAAKU23)

This is a 6V 2000mAh Ni-MH battery for the Sonel LKZ-1500 underground cable locator. It replaces OEM parts WAAKU23, AKU-23, and AA2006BT. The LKZ-1500 uses this pack to power its signal receiver and display during buried utility detection work.

  • LKZ-1500 locator compatibility: Both the cable detector and locator variants of the LKZ-1500 run the same 6V bus with identical connector housings and BMS handshake requirements — this single pack covers both configurations without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through the LKZ-1500's signal-processing load profile. The BMS held voltage above the instrument's 5.4V cutoff threshold under sustained receiver operation, and the protection circuit responded correctly to the brief current spike at detector power-up.
  • Field deployment preparation: After fitting this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the LKZ-1500's instrument menu before heading to site. The detector maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings during your first active scan session.

BMS lockout after the LKZ-1500 sat unused in a carry case

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day. A pack stored in a closed case for several months can drop below 4.8V total — the threshold where the BMS latches into protection mode and refuses to accept a charge. The charger shows no activity, and the detector stays dark. To recover the pack, apply a gentle reconditioning charge at 50–100mA until cell voltage climbs back above 5.0V, then resume normal charging.

LKZ-1500 display resets or readings drop out mid-scan

This happens when the signal processor triggers a higher-draw sampling burst and the pack can't maintain voltage under that transient load. On Ni-MH cells with partial charge, internal resistance rises enough to cause a brief voltage sag below the detector's logic reset point — the display blanks or the reading clears. The fault is not a firmware issue. Charge the pack fully and confirm resting voltage reads at or above 6.0V before starting a logging session.

Frequently Asked Questions

My LKZ-1500 won't turn on after fitting this new battery — no display, nothing

The BMS in a freshly shipped Ni-MH pack can enter sleep mode if cell voltage dipped during transit or storage. The detector gets no voltage and shows nothing. Connect the pack to the OEM charger for 15–20 minutes before attempting power-on — this recovers the BMS from sleep and brings cells above the 5.0V minimum the LKZ-1500 needs to boot.

The LKZ-1500 powers on fine but shuts off the moment I transfer data to a PC via USB

USB data transfer adds a second load path on top of the active receiver circuit. On a partially depleted Ni-MH pack, combined draw pulls voltage below the instrument's cutoff and triggers shutdown. Charge the pack fully before any session that includes USB transfer, and confirm resting voltage is at or above 6.0V before connecting the cable.

Battery percentage on the LKZ-1500 jumps around after I replaced the pack — shows 80% then suddenly 20%

The LKZ-1500 uses a voltage-threshold indicator, not a fuel gauge. New Ni-MH cells have a flatter discharge curve than the original worn pack the detector was tracking, so the percentage mapping is off until the instrument calibrates to the new cells. Run two full charge-discharge cycles through normal field use, then let the indicator settle — readings stabilise once the detector's threshold table aligns to the new cell voltage profile.
