Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

VDO Standard Ignition — 7.4V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (105070 2S1P)
This 7.4V, 2100mAh Li-Polymer pack replaces the original battery in the VDO Standard Ignition series survey and diagnostic instrument. It matches the OEM part number 105070 2S1P and fits the same physical envelope at 68 × 50 × 10.30mm. Voltage and cell configuration are identical to the factory specification.
- Standard Ignition series fit: These instruments share a common 2S1P cell layout and connector pinout. The BMS handshake expects a specific charge-cycle profile from the 7.4V rail, and this pack meets that voltage window at both full charge and cutoff thresholds.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled the pack through charge, full load, and BMS cutoff events. The protection circuit held cutoff voltage correctly and resumed normal charge acceptance without requiring a manual reset.
- First-use calibration step: After installing, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment. The instrument maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings on your first measurement session.
BMS lockout after the VDO Standard Ignition sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-Polymer cells in 2S1P configuration self-discharge slowly over months. If the pack drops below approximately 2.5V per cell, the BMS trips a deep-discharge lockout and blocks normal charge current. The charger LED may show green or no activity even though the pack is not charged. To recover, apply a trickle charge at low current for 15–30 minutes until cell voltage climbs above 3.0V per cell, then resume normal charging.
VDO Standard Ignition shuts down mid-measurement with no low-battery warning
This happens when a probe or sensor module initialises and draws a brief current spike that exceeds the BMS overcurrent threshold. The protection circuit cuts power immediately, and because the event is fast, the instrument has no time to log a low-voltage warning before shutdown. It is not a cell capacity problem — it is a trip event. Power the instrument back on, allow the probe to complete its initialisation sequence before starting logging, and check that the probe connector is fully seated to reduce contact resistance at startup.

Frequently Asked Questions
My VDO Standard Ignition powers on fine but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to the PC — what's happening?
USB data transfer adds a second current draw on top of the active sensor load, and together they can push past the BMS overcurrent threshold on a partially depleted pack. The BMS trips and cuts output before any low-battery warning appears. Charge the pack fully before any session that includes PC logging or data export. If it still trips, check the USB cable — a high-resistance cable increases draw from the instrument side and makes the problem worse.
The battery percentage on the VDO Standard Ignition display jumps around or reads 100% immediately after a reboot even though the pack clearly isn't full — why?
The instrument's voltage-threshold indicator recalibrates its reference points each time it powers on, and a new or recently installed pack has slightly different resting voltages than the aged cell it replaced. The display catches up after one or two full charge-discharge cycles. Run the full calibration sequence in the instrument menu after the second complete cycle and the percentage readout will stabilise against the new cell's actual voltage curve.
My new pack won't take a charge at all after the VDO Standard Ignition sat in storage for several months — charger shows no activity.
The 2S1P Li-Polymer cells have likely self-discharged below the BMS recovery threshold, which sits around 2.5V per cell. At that level the BMS blocks standard charge current entirely to prevent cell damage. Use a charger with a recovery or trickle mode, or apply a low-current charge externally for 15–20 minutes until pack voltage climbs above 6.0V total. Once above that floor, reconnect to the standard charger and it will resume a normal charge cycle.
