Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

X-Rite 331C / 341C Densitometer — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (SE-15-43)
This is a 4.8V, 2000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the X-Rite 331C and 341C Densitometers. It replaces OEM part SE-15-43 Rev C. Both instruments use this pack to power optical measurement and ink density analysis during portable field and press-side use.
- 331C and 341C compatibility: Both models share the same battery bay, connector pinout, and 4.8V supply rail. The BMS handshake is identical across the two, so one pack covers either instrument without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through measurement sequences on the 331C, monitoring BMS response at sensor initialisation. The pack handled repeated optical module power-up draws without tripping the protection circuit.
- Calibration cycle after install: Run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment. The 331C maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings during your first measurement session, even when the pack is fully charged.
BMS lockout after the 331C sat unused in a carry case for months
Ni-MH cells self-discharge during storage. If the pack drops below roughly 3.6V total, the protection circuit locks out to prevent cell reversal. When you plug in the charger, nothing happens — the BMS is blocking charge current, not the charger itself. Place the pack on a Ni-MH compatible charger that supports a low-current recovery mode, typically 100–200mA, and hold it there until the circuit releases. Once voltage climbs above 4.0V, the BMS re-enables normal charge current and the instrument accepts the pack again.
331C shuts down mid-measurement even though the battery indicator showed full
The 331C's voltage threshold indicator reads resting voltage, not voltage under load. During an active optical measurement, the sensor and display draw sustained current that causes a brief voltage sag. If cell capacity has degraded — even in a pack that reads full at rest — that sag trips the low-voltage cutoff and the instrument shuts off mid-sequence. The fix is a full charge followed by a complete discharge cycle to reset the instrument's voltage reference. After one conditioning cycle, the low-battery warning should align accurately with actual remaining capacity.

Frequently Asked Questions
The 331C powers on fine but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to my PC — is this the battery?
Yes. USB data transfer adds a second load on top of the active optical module, and the combined draw causes a voltage sag the original degraded pack can no longer sustain. A fresh 2000mAh pack handles the combined sensor and USB current without tripping the cutoff. After fitting the new battery, run the instrument's calibration cycle before attempting another transfer so the voltage threshold maps correctly to the new cells.
I installed the new pack but the 331C is showing a low-battery warning after just a few measurements — what's wrong?
The instrument's battery indicator calibrated itself to the old degraded cells, so its voltage threshold is still set too high for a fresh pack. Go into the instrument menu and run a full calibration sequence — this resets the reference point the 331C uses to interpret battery state. After one complete calibration cycle, the low-battery warning should stop triggering prematurely.
My 331C readings started drifting and then the instrument reset itself partway through a logging session — is this a battery issue?
This points to voltage dropout under sustained sensor load, not a measurement fault. When the optical module holds power continuously across multiple logged readings, current draw stays elevated and an ageing or low pack dips below the stable operating threshold, causing the processor to reset mid-session. Fit the replacement pack, charge it fully, and confirm resting voltage reads at or above 4.8V before starting the next session. If dropout recurs immediately on a new pack, check the charging contacts in the instrument bay for oxidation and clean with isopropyl alcohol.
