Fits YSI ProDSS and ProSolo water quality meters, replaces OEM part 626846 and 626840 Rev B.
3.7V, 5200mAh Li-ion cell delivers sustained power for multiparameter field surveys without mid-session dropout.
Cylindrical form factor seats into ProDSS battery slot with spring contacts; no adapter required.
We bench-tested this cell in a ProDSS unit running continuous dissolved oxygen and conductivity logging; BMS held steady voltage under sensor load with no early cutoff.
After installation, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment—the ProDSS maps battery state during calibration, and skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

YSI ProDSS / ProSolo Series — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery (626846)

This is a 3.7V Li-ion 5200mAh battery for the YSI ProDSS multiparameter water quality instrument and the ProSolo Digital Water Quality Meter. It also fits the 626870-1 and 626870-2 variants. The OEM part numbers covered are 626846 and 626840 Rev B.

  • ProDSS and ProSolo platform fit: These models share the same battery bay geometry, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. The instrument reads pack state through the same communication line, so one cell format serves the full platform without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the ProDSS power-on sequence and monitored BMS behaviour during multi-probe initialisation. The BMS held stable through the current spike at sensor power-up and passed the instrument's internal pack recognition check without fault codes.
  • Post-install calibration before first field deployment: After fitting this battery, run a full calibration cycle through the ProDSS instrument menu before taking it into the field. The instrument maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings to appear during your first measurement session, even with a full charge.

Probe module current spike tripping BMS on sensor initialisation

When the ProDSS powers up its probe modules — particularly dissolved oxygen and conductivity sensors — the combined inrush current can exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold on a degraded or undersized cell. The instrument interprets this as a fault and cuts power before the first reading is logged. This pack's cells are rated to handle the initialisation surge without tripping the protection circuit. If you still see a shutdown at sensor power-up, check whether the cable and connector between the sonde and handset are seated fully — a partial connection raises contact resistance and amplifies the draw spike.

Pack will not charge and shows no response after months unused in a carry case

Li-ion cells that sit unused for an extended period self-discharge below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. Below that point, the BMS enters sleep mode and blocks the charge circuit as a protection measure, so the charger sees no load and the instrument shows nothing. Place the pack on the YSI charger and leave it connected for at least 60 minutes without interruption — most chargers apply a low-current trickle to bring the cell voltage back above the recovery threshold before switching to full charge. If the charge indicator still does not activate after 90 minutes, measure the pack terminal voltage directly; anything below 2.8V indicates the cell has dropped too far to recover safely and the pack needs replacing.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ProDSS shuts down mid-logging session but the battery showed more than half charge before I started — what's happening?

Sustained sensor load — multiple probes running simultaneously over a long session — causes voltage to sag below the instrument's cutoff threshold before the indicated charge level reflects the real cell state. The display percentage is based on resting voltage, which doesn't account for the drop under continuous draw. Check that the ProDSS firmware is current, as earlier versions had aggressive low-voltage cutoff values that triggered early shutdowns. If the problem continues, run a calibration cycle immediately after a full charge to let the instrument re-map the pack's discharge curve.

Readings reset or data logging stops partway through a survey, but the instrument restarts fine — is this a battery issue?

Yes, this is a voltage dropout event under sustained sensor load, not a full power failure. The cell voltage dips briefly below the threshold the instrument needs to maintain active logging, the processor resets, and power returns before you notice the unit is off. It's a different failure from a hard shutdown — the instrument comes back on its own, but the log file is split or truncated. Confirm the battery terminals and connector are clean and making solid contact, as increased contact resistance amplifies the dropout. A freshly charged pack with a post-install calibration cycle will give the instrument accurate state-of-charge data and reduce the likelihood of mid-session dropouts.

The ProDSS powers on and reads sensors normally, but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to a PC — why?

USB data transfer adds a simultaneous draw on top of active sensor power, and the combined load pulls cell voltage down fast enough to trip the BMS cutoff. This is most common when the battery is at a partial charge rather than fully topped up. Always start USB transfers with a full charge. If the shutdown still happens with a fully charged pack, try a shorter USB cable — longer cables increase resistance and raise the effective load slightly, which is enough to push a marginal pack over the cutoff threshold.
