Fits Microsoft Surface 3 tablet; replaces OEM part MS011301-PLP22T02.
7.6V, 5500mAh lithium-polymer cell restores full charge capacity to the Surface 3.
Connector seats flat into the battery slot with a single locking tab.
We bench-tested the BMS on Surface 3 hardware; voltage held steady through a full discharge cycle.
After installation, run one complete discharge to automatic shutoff then charge uninterrupted to 100% — this recalibrates the fuel gauge IC against the new cell and corrects inaccurate percentage display.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Microsoft Surface 3 — 7.6V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (MS011301-PLP22T02)

This 7.6V, 5500mAh lithium-polymer battery replaces the internal cell in the Microsoft Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3 2-in-1 tablets. It matches OEM part numbers MS011301-PLP22T02, G3HTA005H, G3HTA009H, and 1577-9700. Capacity figure is taken directly from product data — 41.8Wh.

  • Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3 compatibility: Both devices share a common 7.6V cell architecture, the same flat Li-Polymer form factor, and an identical BMS handshake protocol over the internal bus — which is why one part number covers both platforms.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle on a Surface 3 unit. The BMS accepted the new cell without error flags, charge IC negotiated normally, and the tablet reached full charge without thermal events or charge-state faults.
  • Fuel gauge reset after installation: After fitting this battery, run the tablet down to automatic shutoff — do not force it off — then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using the device. This gives the fuel gauge IC a full reference window against the new cell and clears the inaccurate percentage readings that almost always appear after a swap.

Why the Surface 3 shuts down at 15–25% battery remaining

The Surface 3 runs a combined display and WiFi load that pulls current sharply. When the cell is degraded, voltage sags under this combined draw faster than the fuel gauge tracks. The OS sees a valid percentage, but actual cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold — and the tablet shuts off. A replacement cell with full capacity raises the voltage floor under load, so the BMS no longer trips before the gauge reaches zero.

Fast charging not resuming after a battery swap

After fitting a new cell, the Surface Connect charge IC may default to trickle charge for the first session — this is the controller treating the new cell as unknown until one full accepted cycle completes. USB-PD negotiation on the Surface 3 also re-initialises after a power interrupt, which a battery swap triggers. Charge the tablet from 0% to 100% in one uninterrupted session using the original Microsoft charger. After that cycle completes, fast charge behaviour returns to normal.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Surface 3 shows 80% battery but shuts off without warning — is the new battery faulty?

The cell is almost certainly fine. The fuel gauge IC was calibrated to the old, degraded cell and its voltage curve no longer matches the new one. Run the tablet down to automatic shutoff — do not force a shutdown — then charge to 100% in one uninterrupted session. That single full cycle resets the reference window and the percentage will track accurately from that point.

The Surface 3 battery percentage jumps around and drops faster than expected straight after fitting — what's happening?

This is fuel gauge drift — the internal coulomb counter inherited calibration data from the previous cell and is applying it to a cell with a different discharge curve. The reading will stabilise after one complete discharge-to-shutoff and uninterrupted charge-to-100% cycle. Do not top up partway through; the IC needs a clean full-range sweep to recalculate the curve against the new cell.

The tablet feels warm near the battery area while charging after the swap — should I stop charging?

Mild warmth during the first charge cycle is normal. The charge IC on a new cell draws slightly more current during the initial constant-current phase than it does on a partially degraded cell — that difference shows as surface warmth. If the device becomes hot to the touch or the charge stops mid-cycle, disconnect and check the connector seating. Normal charging warmth on a Surface 3 stays well below 40°C and clears within the first session.
