This 3.7V, 4000mAh Li-Polymer cell replaces the original SP4960C3A battery in the Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-P1000, including the 16GB and 32GB variants. It powers the display, processor, and all internal components. Fit the new cell when the original no longer holds a charge or the tablet dies far above 0%.

  • GT-P1000 platform compatibility: The GT-P1000, GT-P1000 16GB, and GT-P1000 32GB all share the same battery bay dimensions and connector pinout. The BMS handshake runs on the same voltage rail across this series, so one cell covers all three storage variants without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the GT-P1000 platform. The BMS accepted the cell without error flags, charge termination triggered correctly at 4.2V, and the protection circuit tripped as expected at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • Fuel gauge recalibration after swap: After fitting this cell, run the tablet down to automatic shutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without using the device. The GT-P1000's fuel gauge IC calibrated itself to the old cell's degraded profile — one full cycle resets it against the new 4000mAh cell and clears inaccurate percentage readings.

When the GT-P1000 runs the display at full brightness alongside active WiFi, combined current draw accelerates voltage sag in the final 20% of the capacity curve. If the cell voltage drops below the BMS cutoff threshold faster than the fuel gauge expects, the tablet interprets a safe remaining percentage as an emergency low-voltage condition and shuts down. Fitting a fresh 4000mAh cell reduces voltage sag under that combined load. After installation, complete one full discharge-to-shutoff cycle so the fuel gauge recalibrates the sag curve against the new cell.

GT-P1000 fast charging not available after battery replacement

The GT-P1000's charge IC negotiates charge rate with the charger on the first accepted cycle after a new cell is detected. Until that cycle completes, the controller may default to a conservative charge current rather than the higher rate the original charger supports. Connect the tablet to the original Samsung charger and allow it to charge fully without interruption. Once that first full cycle completes, the charge IC locks in the negotiated rate and faster charging resumes on subsequent cycles.

Under combined display and WiFi load, voltage drops sharply in the final charge window, and the BMS trips the cutoff before the displayed percentage reaches zero. The tablet reads the remaining capacity incorrectly, so the shutdown looks sudden. Complete one full discharge-to-automatic-shutoff cycle followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% — this resets the calibration and the shutdowns stop.

The Galaxy Tab GT-P1000 feels warm near the back panel while charging with the new battery — should I stop?

Warmth during the first few charge cycles on a new Li-Polymer cell is normal. The charge IC runs a slightly higher acceptance current on a fresh cell compared to a degraded one, which generates more heat until the cell's internal resistance stabilises. If the tablet is warm but not hot to the touch and the temperature drops after the charge completes, no action is needed. If the back becomes too hot to hold comfortably, disconnect the charger and check that the charge port and cable are clean and fully seated.
