Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Albrecht AE105H / AE180H — 4.8V Ni-MH 1200mAh Replacement Battery
This is a 4.8V Ni-MH 1200mAh battery for the Albrecht AE105H and AE180H handheld two-way radios. It replaces the original pack when capacity has dropped or the battery no longer holds a charge between shifts. Capacity is 1200mAh at 5.76Wh — use the product data figure, not the label on the old pack.
- AE105H and AE180H compatibility: Both models share the same 4.8V four-cell Ni-MH pack format, connector pitch, and housing latch. A single replacement covers both platforms without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge cycle and confirmed the BMS handshake with the charger dock. Transmit current draw during PTT did not trigger overcurrent cutoff at standard RF output levels.
- First insertion into the dock: If the charger shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. Ni-MH cells ship at storage voltage — the dock needs a clean contact cycle to begin the charge handshake.
Why the AE105H drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on a new pack
Ni-MH cells arrive from storage at roughly 50–60% state of charge, not full. Under sustained RF output, the radio's voltage threshold circuit reads the sag on partially charged cells and steps down transmit power to protect the finals. This is not a faulty battery — it is the radio responding to real voltage drop on an uncharged pack. Run the battery through two full charge-discharge cycles before field use and the voltage headroom recovers. After conditioning, the sag under PTT load drops significantly and TX power holds at the rated level.
Bar indicator showing fewer bars than expected after fitting the new battery
The AE105H uses a simple voltage-threshold bar indicator — each bar corresponds to a voltage band, not a percentage from a fuel gauge chip. A new Ni-MH pack at storage voltage will sit in the lower band and display one or two bars even though the cell capacity is intact. This is not a capacity defect. Charge the pack fully and the resting voltage climbs above the next threshold — the indicator will step up to the correct bar count. Expect the display to stabilise after the first complete charge cycle reaches 5.76V across the pack.

Frequently Asked Questions
The charger dock is showing a fault LED and won't start charging the new battery — what's happening?
Ni-MH packs ship at storage voltage, which can fall below the dock's acceptance threshold on first insertion. Remove the battery, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat it firmly — a poor contact prevents the BMS handshake from starting. If the fault LED persists, check that the pack is latched flush; even a 1–2mm gap breaks the circuit. Once the dock registers a clean connection it will begin trickle-charge to bring the cell voltage up to the normal charge-start threshold.
The radio cuts out completely when I press PTT — it powers back on when I release the button. Why?
This is a BMS overcurrent trip triggered by the transmit current spike on PTT. On a new or recently stored Ni-MH pack, internal impedance is elevated until the cells have been cycled a few times. The sudden current demand during transmission pushes the BMS over its cutoff threshold and it shuts the pack down momentarily. Run two full charge-discharge cycles to condition the cells — impedance drops and the BMS no longer trips under normal PTT load.
After leaving the charged battery in a drawer for three weeks, the radio won't turn on at all — is the pack dead?
Ni-MH chemistry self-discharges faster than Li-ion — roughly 1–3% per day at room temperature. Three weeks of storage can pull the pack voltage low enough that the radio's power circuit won't initialise. Put the battery back in the charger dock for a full charge cycle before concluding it is faulty. If the dock accepts it and charges normally, the pack is fine — discharge from self-discharge is recoverable. The radio should power on normally once the pack voltage returns above 4.5V.
