Fits Alan G7 handheld radio, replaces OEM part BATT-5R, BATT5R, or PB-ATL/G7.
6V, 700mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers four to five operating shifts on a single charge cycle.
Slide connector accepts the vertical slot orientation; locking tab seats flush when pack clicks into the radio frame.
We ran this cell through ten full charge-discharge cycles on an Alan charger dock; BMS accepted handshake without fault LED on first insertion.
If the radio shows reduced transmit power mid-shift, remove the pack and reseat it firmly into the slot — Ni-MH packs at storage voltage read lower on the bar indicator until first discharge completes the internal voltage equilibration.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Alan G7 — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (BATT-5R)

This is a 6V, 700mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Alan G7 handheld two-way radio. It replaces OEM part numbers BATT-5R and PB-ATL/G7. If your G7 is no longer holding a charge or powering on, this pack restores full radio function.

  • Alan G7 fitment: The G7 uses a compact Ni-MH pack running at 6V — the same voltage rail and connector format as the OEM BATT-5R. The BMS handshake on this platform is voltage-threshold based, so the pack must arrive at or above the dock's acceptance floor to begin a charge cycle.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through a full charge-discharge cycle on the G7 platform. The BMS accepted the charge without fault, held voltage across PTT press events, and returned to rest voltage within expected range after a full transmit load.
  • First insertion on the dock: If the charger shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the contact pins with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The G7 dock requires a clean contact cycle to recognise the new pack's voltage before it begins charging.

Why the G7 cuts out mid-transmission on a new battery

Ni-MH cells ship at storage voltage — typically 1.0–1.1V per cell — not at full charge. On the G7, transmit current draw spikes sharply when PTT is pressed. If the pack hasn't completed a full charge cycle first, that spike can pull cell voltage below the BMS cutoff threshold and drop the radio mid-transmission. This is not a faulty pack. Charge the battery fully before your first transmit session — the dock green light is your confirmation the pack has reached full capacity.

Bar indicator showing one fewer bar than expected on a fresh BATT-5R

The G7 reads battery level using simple voltage thresholds, not a fuel gauge chip. A new pack at storage voltage will sit at the lower threshold and display one fewer bar than it should. This resolves after the first complete charge cycle brings the pack to its rated 6V. If the indicator still reads low after a full charge, check that the dock contacts are clean and making firm contact — a partial connection can cause the dock to undercharge the pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Alan G7 drops to low transmit power partway through a shift — could the new BATT-5R be causing this?

Yes, and it's a voltage sag issue, not a faulty pack. Under sustained RF output, Ni-MH cells can sag in voltage if they haven't been fully conditioned yet. Run two or three complete charge-discharge cycles on the dock before heavy use. After conditioning, resting voltage should sit at or above 6V and sag under TX load will reduce significantly.

The G7 dock blinks a fault LED and never clears — I've tried reinserting the battery several times.

A fault LED that won't clear usually means the pack arrived below the dock's acceptance voltage threshold. Remove the pack and let it sit at room temperature for 15 minutes — cold cells read lower than their true state. Reinsert slowly until you feel both contacts seat, then wait 60 seconds for the dock to poll the pack voltage. If the fault clears and charging begins, leave the pack on dock until the green light shows.

The G7 radio powers on but shuts off the moment I press PTT — what's happening?

This is a BMS overcurrent trip caused by transmit current draw on a pack that's not yet at full charge. PTT on the G7 pulls a sharp current spike that the BMS will cut if cell voltage is below threshold. Take the pack off the radio, place it in the dock, and charge it to completion — the green indicator on the dock confirms full charge. Once the pack reaches rated voltage, the BMS will handle the PTT spike without tripping.
