Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Leifheit PowerMax 11920 / 89022 / PowerMax Supra — 4.8V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (D-4/5SC1300 x 4)
This is a 4.8V, 2200mAh Ni-MH battery pack for the Leifheit PowerMax 11920, 89022, and PowerMax Supra cordless vacuum cleaners. It replaces the original pack when the vacuum loses charge capacity or fails to hold a charge. Capacity figure is sourced from the product specification — 2200mAh, 10.56Wh.
- PowerMax 11920, 89022, and Supra compatibility: All three models share the same 4.8V motor rail and cell format. The D-4/5SC1300 x 4 configuration matches the original sub-C cell arrangement, connector position, and BMS voltage thresholds across the range.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through discharge cycles on the PowerMax platform. The BMS held cutoff correctly at low-cell voltage and the motor draw registered within the expected current band for both hard floor and carpet passes.
- Dock charging habit on the PowerMax series: The PowerMax charger does not switch to a true maintenance mode after full charge. Leaving the vacuum on the dock continuously passes a low-level trickle current that degrades Ni-MH cells faster than cycle use. Charge to full, then remove the vacuum from the dock.
Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low on the PowerMax
This happens when the motor draws more current than rated — usually because the filter is partially blocked. Under restricted airflow, the motor load increases, voltage sags across the cells, and the BMS reads that sag as a low-battery condition even when the pack still holds charge. The vacuum throttles back or cuts suction output as a result. Clean or replace the filter first, then retest — if suction holds consistently, the battery is not the root cause.
Motor cuts out mid-clean then recovers after a short pause
This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When suction is restricted — by a blocked nozzle, full dust container, or clogged filter — the motor pulls sustained high current and the BMS shuts the output to protect the cells. After a brief rest the pack voltage recovers and the motor restarts. Clear the blockage, empty the container, and check the filter before assuming the battery has failed. If the trip repeats on a clear airpath, measure pack voltage under load — it should hold above 4.0V during motor run.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Leifheit PowerMax runs for much less time than it used to — could a blocked filter be the cause?
Yes, a partially blocked filter forces the motor to work harder, pulling more current than rated from the cells. That extra draw drains the pack faster and can also trigger premature BMS cutoff. Clean or replace the filter and empty the dust container fully before fitting the new battery. If runtime improves noticeably after that, the old pack was being worn down by the extra load, not just age.
The PowerMax vacuum sat unused for several months and now the battery won't charge — is the pack recoverable?
Ni-MH cells that sit in deep discharge for extended periods can drop below the minimum voltage the charger needs to detect the pack. The charger simply sees nothing and stops. Some Ni-MH chargers can force a slow pre-charge pulse to recover a deeply discharged pack — if yours does not, the cells are likely unrecoverable and a replacement pack is the correct fix. Fit the new battery, place it on charge, and confirm the charger indicator activates within the first few minutes.
I replaced the battery but the PowerMax still loses suction quickly — what else should I check?
If suction fades fast on a new, fully charged pack, the motor is drawing excessive current due to a restriction, not a battery fault. Check the filter, nozzle, and hose for blockages and empty the dust container completely. A restricted airpath makes the motor labour and pulls voltage down faster than normal cycling would. Clear all restrictions, fully charge the new pack, and retest — if the problem persists, check that the nozzle seal is seated correctly, as air leaks also reduce suction output.
