Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Plantronics Elite 162 / Explorer 340 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (70868-01)
This 3.7V, 140mAh lithium-polymer cell replaces OEM part 70868-01 in the Plantronics Elite 162 and Explorer 320, 330, and 340 Bluetooth headsets. The original cell degrades with repeated shallow-cycle use — common in office and mobile environments — until the headset can no longer sustain a full call. This replacement restores the pack to original capacity.
- Elite 162 and Explorer series compatibility: These models share the same 3.7V cell, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. Swapping to this pack requires no modification — the base station communicates with the BMS identically to the factory cell.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on the Explorer 340 platform. The BMS reported correct state-of-charge to the base station and held voltage above the 3.2V cutoff threshold under combined audio and DECT radio draw.
- First charge after fitting: Seat the headset in the base station and allow a complete uninterrupted charge cycle before taking a call. DECT headsets log the new cell during this cycle — skipping it causes the base to display an inaccurate talk-time estimate.
Base station not recognising new pack after swap
DECT base stations handshake with the headset BMS to track cell state. If the cell arrives at storage voltage — typically around 3.6V — the base may show a charging error or fail to register the pack at all. Place the headset in the cradle immediately after fitting. The BMS initialisation completes during the first full charge cycle, after which the base station reads capacity and charge state correctly.
Headset cuts out mid-call even with a recently charged battery
The Elite 162 and Explorer headsets draw current from two simultaneous loads — the audio codec and the DECT radio transmitter. Under that combined draw, a degraded or under-conditioned cell can sag below the BMS cutoff voltage briefly, dropping the headset off the call. This is not a headset fault. Run three to five complete charge and discharge cycles to bring the cell to rated capacity. After conditioning, voltage sag under combined load stays within the BMS window and dropouts stop.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Plantronics Explorer 340 base shows a full charge but the headset cuts off after a short call — what's wrong?
This happens when the new cell is still at storage voltage and the base station hasn't completed BMS initialisation. The base reads the resting voltage as "charged" but the cell hasn't been calibrated to the dock yet. Place the headset in the cradle and let it run a full uninterrupted charge cycle before making a call. After that first cycle, the base and BMS sync correctly and the headset holds charge through normal use.
Talk time on the Explorer 320 is noticeably shorter than the original battery for the first few days — is the replacement faulty?
It isn't faulty. Li-polymer cells in shallow-cycle devices like headsets need three to five full charge and discharge cycles before reaching rated capacity. The cell ships partially charged and the BMS hasn't logged a complete cycle yet, so available capacity reads low. Use the headset until the battery depletes, then charge fully — repeat this three to five times. Talk time increases progressively across those cycles and stabilises at rated capacity.
The Elite 162 headset gets noticeably warm on long calls after fitting the new battery — is that normal?
Some warmth is expected. The Elite 162 housing is compact and combines audio codec and DECT radio draw in a small thermal footprint. A new cell under sustained combined load runs slightly warmer than a partially degraded original. If the headset becomes hot to the touch rather than warm, remove it and let it cool for 10 minutes, then check that the cell is fully seated and the contacts are clean. Normal operating temperature during a call should not exceed what you'd feel on the back of a phone during a video stream.
