Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Amplivox S805A / SW805A — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (S1460)
This is a 12V 7000mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Amplivox S805A and SW805A portable speaker systems. It replaces OEM part number S1460, the original rechargeable pack that powers the amplifier and audio electronics in both units. When the original pack no longer holds a charge or struggles to sustain volume during extended use, this is the direct replacement.
- S805A and SW805A shared platform: Both models run the same 12V battery rail and use an identical connector and BMS handshake. The pack slots into either unit without modification — same housing dimensions, same charge acceptance protocol.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the S805A charge cycle and monitored BMS cutoff behavior. The protection circuit terminated charge cleanly at full capacity and responded correctly to the charger's termination signal — no overcharge, no false-full cutoff.
- Ni-MH cycling tip for daily speaker use: Ni-MH cells lose capacity faster when repeatedly charged from high states. Let the S805A run down below 30% at least once every two to three weeks before recharging. This keeps the full cell capacity accessible and slows voltage depression on individual cells.
Why the S805A audio distorts before the battery indicator hits empty
As a Ni-MH pack ages, its internal resistance rises. Under amplifier load, voltage sags faster than the indicator circuit can track. The amplifier rail drops below its clean operating threshold while the gauge still shows partial charge remaining. This causes clipping distortion at higher volume settings — the amp is starved for voltage, not fully discharged. A fresh pack with lower internal resistance holds the voltage rail stable under load, eliminating early-onset distortion. Confirm pack health by measuring terminal voltage under load — a good pack holds above 11V during playback.
Speaker plays at full volume briefly then cuts to low output
This symptom points to the BMS tripping on a sustained current spike from the amplifier at high volume. An aged Ni-MH cell stack can't deliver peak current without voltage collapsing momentarily, triggering the protection circuit. The BMS reduces output or disconnects briefly to protect the cells. With a new pack at full capacity, the cell stack handles amplifier current demand without triggering the cutoff — power the unit off, wait 10 seconds, and restart to reset the BMS before first use.

Frequently Asked Questions
My S805A shows a full charge but the audio goes weak after about an hour of use — why?
This is voltage depression from shallow cycling on Ni-MH cells. If the speaker is repeatedly topped off before dropping below 50%, individual cells in the pack develop uneven charge states and the effective capacity shrinks. The battery indicator reads voltage at rest, not true remaining capacity, so it shows full while actual usable energy is much lower. Run the pack down below 30% before each full recharge for two to three cycles and the gauge accuracy should recover.
The S805A sounds fine at low volume but distorts badly when turned up past halfway — the battery isn't even low yet.
High amplifier output draws a sharp current spike that causes voltage sag across an aging or cold Ni-MH pack. The amplifier clips when the supply voltage drops below its clean operating threshold, even briefly. This happens mid-charge because the pack's internal resistance has risen — the indicator shows charge remaining, but the cells can't deliver current fast enough under peak load. Measure terminal voltage under load at high volume; a healthy pack should hold above 11V.
After leaving the S805A unused for two months, it won't power on even after plugging in the charger for an hour.
A Ni-MH pack left discharged self-discharges further in storage, and cells that drop below roughly 1V each can refuse a normal charge — the charger sees too low a voltage to begin its charge cycle. Some chargers recover these packs with a trickle pre-charge at around 0.1C before switching to normal rate. If the charger shows no charge activity after 30 minutes at full connection, the pack cells have likely dropped below recovery threshold and the pack needs replacement.
