Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

APS BC1071 — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (29518)
This is a 7.4V, 2000mAh Li-ion battery for the APS BC1071 survey and test instrument. It replaces OEM part numbers 29518, 38403, 46607, 52030, C8872A, and EI-D-LI1. The pack ships at partial charge and requires a full charge cycle before field deployment.
- BC1071 compatibility: The BC1071 uses a 7.4V two-cell Li-ion configuration with a BMS handshake tied to the instrument's power rail. This pack matches that voltage rail and connector pinout, so the instrument's charge and discharge circuits communicate with the BMS correctly.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on a BC1071-class test rig. The BMS held cutoff thresholds within spec at both the low-voltage floor and the peak charge ceiling, and the instrument read state-of-charge without error flags.
- Pre-deployment calibration cycle: After installing this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the BC1071's instrument menu before heading into the field. The instrument maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes the low-battery warning to trigger prematurely on the first measurement session.
BMS lockout after the BC1071 sat unused in a carry case for months
Li-ion cells self-discharge slowly during storage. If the BC1071 sits unused long enough, cell voltage drops below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. At that point the BMS enters a protective sleep state and the instrument will not power on or accept a charge. To recover, connect the battery to a Li-ion charger that supports a trickle or recovery mode, which applies a low current to bring cell voltage above the 3.0V threshold before the BMS re-engages. Once the pack reaches 3.0V per cell, normal charging resumes.
Voltage dropout causing readings to reset or drift mid-logging session
Under sustained sensor load during a long logging session, an aged or deeply discharged cell can sag below the BC1071's internal voltage threshold. When that happens the instrument resets or produces drifting readings without displaying a low-battery warning. This is not a firmware fault — it is a voltage dropout event triggered by the cell's rising internal resistance under continuous draw. Check resting cell voltage after a session; if it reads below 7.0V after a full charge, the pack has degraded and should be replaced.

Frequently Asked Questions
The BC1071 powers on fine but shuts down as soon as a probe or sensor module initialises — is this a BMS trip?
Yes. Probe and sensor initialisation draws a short current spike that can exceed the BMS overcurrent threshold on a discharged or cold pack. Charge the battery fully before connecting any probe module — a pack at partial charge has less headroom before the BMS trips. If shutdown still occurs after a full charge, check that the probe connector pins are clean and seating fully, as a high-resistance connection amplifies the spike.
The BC1071 shuts off every time I start a USB data transfer to a PC — the battery shows full charge on the display.
USB data transfer adds a combined draw on top of the active sensor load, and if the pack's cells have degraded, that combined current pulls voltage below the instrument's cutoff threshold even when the display shows full. The display reads a resting voltage that looks healthy, but voltage sags under load. Test by transferring data immediately after a fresh charge; if shutdown still occurs, measure resting pack voltage with a multimeter — anything below 7.8V after a full charge indicates cell degradation.
After fitting a new pack, the BC1071 is showing low-battery warnings after only a short time in use — did we get a faulty battery?
This is almost always the instrument recalibrating its voltage-threshold indicator to the new cells, not a faulty pack. Run a full calibration cycle through the BC1071's instrument menu with the new pack installed before field use — the instrument maps the battery's discharge curve during this step. Skipping calibration leaves the instrument using the old cell's threshold map, which triggers early low-battery warnings. After one complete calibration cycle, the warnings should align with actual charge state.
