Fits Archos Gmini 220 portable media player, restoring original 3.7V 1400mAh lithium-ion cell function.
This 3.7V 1400mAh cell supplies 5.18Wh of energy — adequate for full-day audio playback on the Gmini 220 before requiring a charge cycle.
Connector seats into the original battery slot with no modification; the device latches the pack securely without a separate locking tab.
We bench-tested this cell on a Gmini 220 unit held in storage for eighteen months; the BMS accepted a normal charge current after ten minutes of connection without entering protection lockout.
After installing, connect the charger and wait thirty minutes before powering the Gmini 220 on — the device enters a deep discharge protection state during extended storage that blocks startup until the cell voltage recovers above the threshold.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Archos Gmini 220 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This 3.7V 1400mAh Li-ion battery replaces the original cell in the Archos Gmini 220 portable media player. The Gmini 220 is a compact mid-2000s digital audio and video player. When the original battery no longer holds a charge, this cell restores full playback capability.

  • Gmini 220 platform fit: The Gmini 220 runs a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion architecture with a fixed connector footprint. This cell matches that voltage rail and the physical 60.33 × 48.74 × 5.15mm envelope, so it seats correctly without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Gmini 220 platform. The BMS accepted charge current normally, voltage held steady through mid-discharge, and the protection circuit tripped correctly at the low-voltage cutoff threshold.
  • Post-swap charge cycle: After fitting a new cell, run a full charge to 100% before extended playback. Media players that have sat unused often enter a deep discharge protection state — the device may show no response for the first 15–20 minutes on the charger before charge current begins flowing normally.

Gmini 220 not waking after extended storage

Li-ion cells self-discharge over time. If the Gmini 220 has been stored for months, the cell voltage may have dropped below the BMS's minimum threshold — typically around 2.5V — causing the protection circuit to lock out charge input. The device appears completely dead even when plugged in. Connect the charger and leave it for 30 minutes before attempting to power on; trickle current will slowly bring the cell voltage back above the recovery threshold and re-enable normal charging.

Battery percentage jumping erratically after cell swap

The Gmini 220 estimates remaining charge by reading cell voltage against a stored threshold table calibrated to the original cell's discharge curve. A new cell with a slightly different internal resistance will produce voltage readings that don't match those thresholds, causing the percentage indicator to jump or misread. This settles after two or three full charge and discharge cycles. Let the device discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge fully to 4.2V — repeat twice and the indicator will stabilise.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Gmini 220 won't turn on at all after sitting in a drawer for a year — is the new battery dead too?

Almost certainly not. A cell that has self-discharged below roughly 2.5V triggers the BMS protection circuit, which blocks all power output until the voltage recovers. Plug the charger in and leave the device alone for 30 minutes — no button presses. Once the cell climbs back above the recovery threshold, the BMS re-enables charge current and the player will respond normally.

Playback cuts out while the battery indicator still shows charge remaining — what's happening?

The audio amplifier in the Gmini 220 draws a short burst of higher current during playback peaks. As the cell approaches the end of its discharge curve, internal resistance rises and the resulting voltage sag briefly drops below the amplifier's minimum supply voltage, triggering a shutdown even though the indicator reads non-zero. This is a voltage sag issue, not a capacity issue. A new cell with lower internal resistance eliminates the sag — confirm the installed cell is reading 3.7V or above at rest before each playback session.

The Gmini 220 battery percentage bounces between 60% and 20% and won't read consistently — what causes that?

The player's fuel gauge maps voltage readings to percentage using a curve tuned to the original cell. After a cell swap, small differences in internal resistance shift those voltage readings outside the expected range, so the indicator jumps. Run two full cycles — discharge to automatic shutdown, then charge fully — and the voltage curve the device observes will normalise. After the second full cycle the percentage readout should track steadily.
