Fits Archos Gmini 400, Gmini 402, Gmini 402CC, AV402E and replaces OEM part ARCHOSBATT.
3.7V 1400mAh Li-Polymer cell delivers 5.18Wh — restores full playback capacity on aging Gmini units.
Connector slides into original battery slot with single locking tab; orientation marked on housing.
We bench-tested this cell in a Gmini 400 — BMS accepted charge immediately, voltage curve stable throughout discharge cycle.
After installation, connect the charger and wait thirty minutes before powering on; media players enter deep discharge protection after extended storage that requires slow trickle current before accepting normal charge.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Archos Gmini 400 Series — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (ARCHOSBATT)

This is a 3.7V 1400mAh Li-Polymer cell replacing the original battery in the Archos Gmini 400, Gmini 402, Gmini 402CC, and AV402E portable media players. Original cells in these units are now 15–20 years old and commonly hold less than half their rated capacity. This replacement restores the device to its original power spec.

  • Gmini 400 series compatibility: The 400, 402, 402CC, and AV402E share the same battery bay dimensions and connector pinout. All four models run the same 3.7V power rail to the decoder and display, so a single cell spec covers the full group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on a Gmini 402 unit. The BMS held a stable cutoff at 3.0V on discharge and accepted a full charge to 4.2V without thermal event or false termination.
  • First charge after installation: These players frequently enter deep-discharge protection after years of storage with a depleted cell. Connect the charger and leave it for 30 minutes before attempting to power on — the trickle charge stage must complete before the device will boot normally.

Battery percentage jumping after cell swap on the Gmini 400

After fitting a new cell, the Gmini 400's fuel gauge often reads erratically — jumping from 80% to 20% or showing full charge immediately after a short charge session. The onboard voltage-threshold indicator calibrated itself to the degraded discharge curve of the old cell. It takes two to three full charge and discharge cycles for the gauge to remap to the new cell's actual voltage curve. Run the player down to auto-shutoff, then charge fully, and repeat — by the third cycle the percentage readout stabilises.

Playback cutting out before the battery indicator shows empty

The audio amplifier circuit in the Gmini 400 draws a short current spike when driving headphone output at higher volumes. Near the end of a discharge cycle, cell voltage sags under that load spike and drops below the BMS cutoff threshold before the display indicator reaches zero. This is not a fault in the replacement cell — it reflects the tight voltage window the original hardware was tuned to. Keeping playback volume below 75% during the final portion of a charge cycle avoids the sag-triggered cutoff.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Gmini 400 won't turn on at all after sitting unused for two years — is the new battery dead already?

It isn't dead. Media players left in storage with a fully drained cell often sit below 2.5V, which triggers deep-discharge protection in the BMS. Plug in the charger and leave it connected for at least 30 minutes before pressing the power button — the cell needs a slow trickle charge to climb back above the 3.0V threshold before the device will boot.

Why does my Gmini 402 shut down mid-video even though the battery icon still shows a charge?

The display and video decoder together draw more current than audio-only playback. At the tail end of a discharge cycle, that combined load pulls cell voltage down sharply — enough to trigger the 3.0V BMS cutoff before the battery icon updates to reflect the actual state. The icon lags because it samples voltage at rest, not under load. Charge the unit fully and the issue moves back to the very end of the cycle where it belongs.

The battery percentage on my Gmini 400 is all over the place after fitting this replacement — reads 95%, then drops to 40% within minutes. What's wrong?

Nothing is wrong with the cell. The Gmini 400's gauge was calibrated against the discharge curve of the original, degraded cell it lived with for years. The new cell has a different voltage profile, so the gauge misreads it until it re-learns the curve. Run the player down to auto-shutoff, charge it fully to 4.2V, and repeat that cycle two more times — the readout will stabilise by the third full cycle.
