  • C201 series fit: The ChromeBook C201, C201P, and C201PA all share the same battery bay dimensions, 7.6V two-cell Li-Polymer configuration, and connector pinout. The BMS handshake protocol is identical across these variants, so one cell covers the full lineup without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell in a C201PA chassis and confirmed the BMS initialised correctly on first boot, charge acceptance began immediately, and the protection circuit tripped at the correct over-discharge threshold without triggering a false low-voltage cutoff.
  • Post-install calibration on the C201PA: After fitting, run the battery down until the Chromebook hibernates on its own, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without unplugging early. Why the C201PA shuts down at 20–30% after a battery swap

BIOS or Chrome OS reporting the replacement battery as poor health or unknown

The health flag comes from EEPROM data written during the battery learn cycle — after a swap, the system is still reading the old cell's accumulated wear data. This is not a fault with the new cell. Boot into Chrome OS, open the crosh terminal, and run battery_test 1 to confirm the cell is charging and discharging correctly. Run one full calibration cycle as described above and the health status will update to reflect the new cell's actual state.

My Asus C201PA shuts itself off at around 25% battery shown — is the new cell faulty?

Chrome OS shows the replacement battery Wh rating as lower than the spec — why doesn't it match?

The Wh figure Chrome OS displays is pulled from EEPROM data embedded in the battery's BMS chip, which reflects the rated chemistry value logged at manufacture. The actual delivered energy can differ slightly from the nominal 36.48Wh depending on temperature and load, so a small discrepancy in the system info panel is normal and not a sign of a defective cell. If the figure shown is significantly off — more than 10% — run a full calibration cycle first, as the fuel gauge IC may still be reading against the old cell's stored data.

The C201PA won't charge past 80% after fitting the new battery — is the charge circuit broken?

This is almost always a BIOS-level charge limit, not a fault with the battery or charger. Asus and Chrome OS both include a firmware-controlled charge threshold that caps charging at 80% to reduce cell stress during long periods on mains power. Check Chrome OS settings under Battery or use the crosh command battery_firmware info to confirm whether a charge limit is active, then disable it to allow a full charge to 100%.
