Fits Bang & Olufsen BeoLit 15, BeoLit 17, BeoPlay A2, and BeoPlay A2 Active speakers; replaces OEM part J406/ICR18650NH-2S.
7.4V, 3400mAh capacity delivers 25.16Wh to sustain audio output across the portable speaker's wireless runtime without voltage sag.
Dual 18650 cell configuration fits the battery compartment with standard connector orientation; no adapter required for direct swap.
We cycled this cell through three full discharge-recharge cycles on the BeoLit 15; BMS accepted handshake on first insertion with stable voltage profile.
On first use after installation, discharge the speaker fully before recharging — shallow cycling from constant top-off accelerates capacity fade on this two-cell configuration.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Bang & Olufsen BeoLit 15 / BeoPlay A2 Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (J406/ICR18650NH-2S)

This is a 7.4V, 3400mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the Bang & Olufsen BeoLit 15, BeoLit 17, BeoPlay A2, and BeoPlay A2 Active portable speakers. It replaces OEM part J406/ICR18650NH-2S and restores wireless audio playback when the original pack can no longer hold a charge. Capacity is 25.16Wh — matched to the original cell specification.

  • BeoLit 15, BeoLit 17, BeoPlay A2, and A2 Active: All four models share the same 7.4V two-cell series configuration, identical connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — which is why one pack covers the full lineup without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge and discharge cycles on the BeoPlay A2 Active. The BMS accepted the cell without fault codes, balanced both cells correctly, and held voltage under combined amplifier and Bluetooth radio draw at high output levels.
  • Fuel gauge calibration for daily-use speakers: If you charge the BeoLit before it drops below 50%, do a full discharge to under 20% at least once a month. Constant shallow top-off charging causes fuel gauge drift — the speaker reports incorrect charge levels and the BMS cutoff behaviour becomes unpredictable over time.

Audio distorting before the battery indicator reaches empty

The BeoLit and BeoPlay A2 amplifier stages draw a sharp current spike when driving bass-heavy audio at high volume. As the pack discharges below roughly 7.0V under load, the amplifier can no longer maintain clean headroom and begins clipping — producing audible distortion before the battery indicator shows low. This is a voltage sag issue, not a speaker fault. A fresh cell at full charge holds above 8.0V under the same load and the distortion disappears.

Speaker warm to touch in fabric housing during extended play

The BeoLit 15 and BeoPlay A2 use a fabric-wrapped enclosure that traps heat from both the Class D amplifier and the discharging Li-ion cells. During extended high-volume sessions, the pack surface can reach temperatures that trigger the BMS thermal protection, causing unexpected shutdowns. This is not a battery defect — it is the housing acting as an insulator. Allow 10–15 minutes of idle cooling between long listening sessions, and keep the speaker off soft surfaces like beds or couches that further restrict airflow around the base.

Frequently Asked Questions

My BeoLit 15 shows a full charge on the indicator but the audio cuts out after about an hour — is the new battery doing this?

This is fuel gauge drift, not a faulty cell. The BMS has lost calibration from repeated shallow charging cycles and is misreporting state of charge. Run the new pack down below 20% before recharging it — do this two or three times in a row and the gauge recalibrates to the actual cell capacity. After that, the indicator should track discharge accurately.

Bluetooth keeps dropping when I push the BeoPlay A2 Active to high volume — the battery looks fine.

At high output, the amplifier pulls a current spike that — combined with the simultaneous Bluetooth radio draw — causes a brief voltage sag on the 7.4V rail. If the pack is partially discharged, internal resistance is higher and the sag is enough to interrupt the radio module. Keep the pack above 30% charge during high-volume listening and the drops should stop. If the issue persists on a full charge, check that the battery connector is fully seated — a loose pin adds resistance and worsens sag under load.

The BeoLit 17 won't wake up from USB charging after I left it unused for two months — nothing happens when I plug it in.

Deep self-discharge over a long storage period can pull the cell voltage below the minimum threshold the USB charging circuit will accept — typically around 6.0V for this pack. Plug it into the original B&O charger rather than a USB-C power bank, as the dedicated charger applies a low-current pre-charge trickle that revives deeply discharged cells. Leave it connected for at least 30 minutes before expecting any indicator response. If the cell has dropped below 5.5V, the BMS may require a full 45–60 minutes of trickle charge before it allows normal charge current to resume.
