Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BCI Capnocheck II Capnograph Pulse Oximeter — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (MCR-1821J/1-H)
This is a 7.4V, 2600mAh Li-ion replacement battery for the BCI Capnocheck II Capnograph Pulse Oximeter. It fits handheld units used for simultaneous end-tidal CO2 and SpO2 monitoring during portable clinical assessments. Confirmed compatible with Capnocheck II, Capnocheck ll, Capnocheck 8400, and Capnocheck 8401 models using OEM part references MCR-1821J/1-H, OM0032, and 6082.
- Capnocheck 8400 and 8401 platform fit: These models share the same 7.4V battery rail, physical connector, and BMS handshake protocol as the Capnocheck II. One replacement cell covers the full platform without modifications or adapters.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through the Capnocheck boot sequence and monitored BMS communication during startup. The battery reported state-of-charge correctly and passed the device's internal power verification without throwing a fault flag.
- Post-swap startup protocol: After installing this battery, allow the device to complete its full power-on self-test cycle without interruption. The Capnocheck BMS runs a chemistry verification step at startup — cutting power mid-sequence stores a false battery fault that persists until the next complete reboot.
Why the Capnocheck II won't complete its boot sequence on a new battery
The Capnocheck II runs a BMS learn cycle during its first few charge-discharge passes on a new cell. Until that cycle completes, the device's charge controller applies a conservative capacity estimate that can fall below the boot threshold. This causes the unit to stall mid-startup or reset before reaching the monitoring screen. One full charge followed by a full discharge resolves the issue — after that, the BMS registers the actual cell capacity and boot proceeds normally.
Charge indicator stuck below 100% on first charge after battery swap
On first charge, the Capnocheck's charge IC applies a reduced current ceiling to an uncharacterised new cell — this is intentional, not a fault. The indicator plateaus early because the IC has not yet confirmed the cell's internal resistance profile. Run one complete charge cycle to completion without interrupting the charge, then discharge the device fully during normal use. On the second charge, the IC updates its model and the indicator reaches 100% at the correct point.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Capnocheck is alarming low battery immediately after I charged the new replacement — what's happening?
The device's BMS uses the OEM cell's charge curve as its reference threshold. A new replacement cell hasn't completed a characterisation cycle yet, so the BMS reads its state-of-charge conservatively and trips the low-battery alarm even on a full charge. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle before clinical use. After that single cycle, the BMS recalibrates to the new cell and the alarm clears.
The Capnocheck won't power on at all after the battery sat in the unit unused for several weeks — is the cell dead?
Li-ion cells self-discharge in storage, and if the voltage dropped below the BMS recovery threshold (typically around 2.5V per cell, or 5.0V for a 7.4V pack), the BMS enters a locked state and blocks power-on to protect the cell. Connect the device to the charger and leave it for at least 60 minutes without attempting to power it on — the charge IC will trickle-charge the pack back above the recovery threshold. Once the charge indicator shows activity, the BMS will re-initialise and normal startup resumes.
The Capnocheck is shutting off mid-monitoring during the first few uses — the battery was fully charged before I started.
Medical-grade capnographs place a heavier load on new cells during active CO2 sampling than the BMS anticipates in its first 10 cycles. The voltage sags under that load, the BMS sees it as a near-depleted cell, and triggers a protective shutdown. This is most pronounced in cycles 1 through 5 on a new battery. Run the cell through several full charge-discharge cycles outside of patient use — by cycle 5 to 10, the cell's internal resistance stabilises and the mid-use shutdowns stop.
