Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BearCom IC-F1000S / IC-F2000T Series — 7.4V Li-ion Replacement Battery (BC1000)
This is a 7.4V 2800mAh Li-ion battery for the Icom IC-F1000S, IC-F2000T, IC-F1000, and IC-F2000 portable two-way radios. It carries the BearCom part number BC1000 and fits the same battery bay used across this Icom F-series platform. Capacity is drawn from the product specification — 2800mAh / 20.72Wh.
- IC-F1000 and IC-F2000 platform fit: These models share the same 7.4V nominal voltage rail, identical battery bay geometry, and the same BMS handshake protocol — a single pack covers the entire series without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through charge, standby, and PTT transmit cycles. The BMS handled the transmit current spike without tripping, and the charger dock accepted the pack after the initial BMS handshake completed.
- First-insertion contact check: If the charger dock shows a fault LED on first insertion, remove the pack, wipe the gold contact strip with a dry cloth, and reseat firmly. The Icom F-series dock requires a clean contact cycle to complete the BMS handshake before charging begins.
IC-F1000S charger dock fault LED after BC1000 swap
The IC-F1000S dock reads the BMS data line on first insertion before committing to a charge cycle. A new pack ships at storage voltage — typically 3.7V per cell — which sits below the dock's acceptance threshold on some firmware revisions. The dock interprets this as a fault and holds the LED red. Insert the pack, remove it after five seconds, wipe the contacts, and reseat. This resets the handshake sequence and the dock will begin the charge cycle normally.
Radio drops to reduced TX power mid-shift on a new pack
This happens when the pack voltage sags under sustained RF output — the radio's protection circuit steps down transmit power to keep voltage above the cutoff threshold. On a new cell at storage voltage, the available headroom under load is narrower than a fully charged pack. A full charge cycle before field use brings both cells to 4.2V each, restoring the full voltage headroom the RF output stage needs. If sag continues after a full charge, check that the battery contacts on the radio body are clean and making firm contact.

Frequently Asked Questions
My IC-F1000S cuts out completely when I press PTT — is the new battery tripping?
Yes — the BMS is responding to the transmit current spike. At storage voltage, the cells have less headroom, and the BMS can interpret the sudden draw as an overcurrent event and cut the output. Charge the pack fully before first field use; at 4.2V per cell, the spike stays well within the BMS operating window. If cutout continues after a full charge, inspect the battery bay contacts for corrosion or debris causing resistance.
The dock accepted the pack and charged it, but the bar indicator shows one fewer bar than I'd expect — is the capacity lower than rated?
No — the IC-F1000S uses a voltage-threshold bar indicator, not a fuel gauge chip. On first insertion after a full charge, the cells may not have fully equilibrated, so the resting voltage reads slightly low and the radio drops one bar. Leave the radio on for a few minutes after removing it from the dock; once the cell voltage stabilises, the bar count will reflect the actual state of charge. If the low reading persists after the second full charge cycle, the cells are likely still conditioning.
The dock never advances past the blinking charge LED and won't show a full-charge solid light — it's been on the dock for hours.
A pack that shipped deep into storage discharge can fall below the dock's fast-charge acceptance voltage, causing the charger to sit in trickle or fault mode indefinitely. Remove the pack from the dock, wait 30 seconds, and reseat it — this forces a fresh handshake attempt. If the dock still won't progress, check the gold contact strip on the pack for oxidation and clean it with a dry cloth before reseating. The dock should accept the pack and advance to steady charge once the contacts deliver a clean signal above 6.0V.
