Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Biolight A5 / A6 / A8 / Q3 Series — 11.1V Li-ion Replacement Battery (LB-08)
This 11.1V 5200mAh lithium-ion battery is a direct replacement for the Biolight A5, A6, A8, and Q3 portable patient monitors. It powers the onboard monitoring electronics — SpO2, heart rate, NIBP, and related parameters — during transport and when mains power is unavailable. Capacity is sourced from product data at 5200mAh (57.72Wh).
- A5 / A6 / A8 / Q3 platform compatibility: These monitors share a common 11.1V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol across the series. A single cell variant covers all four models because the charging IC and communication lines are standardised across the Biolight portable monitor platform.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through charge and load draw while monitoring BMS communication. The protection circuit engaged correctly at low-voltage cutoff, and the cell voltage held within tolerance across the full discharge curve without tripping early.
- Post-swap self-test protocol: After installation, allow the device to complete its full power-on self-test cycle without interruption. The Biolight monitor runs BMS verification at startup — cutting power during this sequence causes a false battery fault flag that persists until the next complete reboot.
Medical device alarming low battery with a freshly charged replacement
The Biolight A-series BMS applies a charge acceptance threshold calibrated for the OEM cell's internal resistance profile. A new replacement cell has slightly higher internal resistance before its first full cycle, which can cause the BMS to read state-of-charge conservatively and trigger a low battery alarm even at full charge. This is not a fault with the cell — it corrects after one complete charge-discharge cycle. Run the monitor on battery until the device prompts charge, charge fully to 100%, then verify alarm behaviour before clinical deployment.
Device will not power on after the replacement battery sat in storage
Lithium-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the battery rested in a warehouse or shipping chain for several months, cell voltage may have dropped below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell, or roughly 7.5V pack voltage. Below this threshold, the BMS locks out output to prevent damage and the monitor shows nothing at startup. Connect the battery to the Biolight charger and leave it for a full charge cycle before attempting to power on the monitor. If the charger detects the pack and begins charging, the cells are recoverable.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Biolight A5 shuts off mid-monitoring session even though the battery showed a good charge level — what's causing this?
New lithium-ion cells stress harder under the Biolight monitor's load profile during the first 10 cycles because the electrochemical structure hasn't fully settled. This produces voltage sag under load that the BMS reads as a low-cell event and triggers a protective shutdown — even when resting voltage looked fine before use. The fix is to complete several full charge-discharge cycles before using the battery in active clinical sessions. After 5–10 cycles, the sag reduces and the shutdowns stop.
The charge indicator on the Biolight monitor is stuck below 100% and won't reach a full reading on the first charge — is the battery faulty?
The Biolight charge IC applies a conservative current limit on the first charge of a new cell to protect against overcharge on an uncalibrated pack. This often results in the indicator stopping at 90–95% before the first full cycle completes the BMS learn sequence. It is not a fault. Run one complete charge to termination, discharge the pack through normal monitor use, then charge again — the indicator should reach 100% and hold on the second cycle.
After swapping the battery in my Biolight A6, the device fails its self-test and shows a battery error on boot — what do I do?
The Biolight portable monitor series runs a BMS verification step during the power-on self-test. If the battery was installed while the device was powered, or if the boot sequence was interrupted during startup, the monitor latches a false battery fault in that session's log. Power the device off completely, confirm the battery is seated fully in the bay, then power on and leave it untouched until the self-test completes — do not press keys or connect to mains mid-sequence. If the error clears, run one full charge cycle before clinical use.
