Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Black & Decker BD12PSK Series — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (A12 / HPB12 / FSB12)
This is a 12V 1500mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Black & Decker BD12PSK cordless drill/driver and compatible 12V platform models. It replaces OEM part numbers including A12, HPB12, FSB12, and FS120B among others. Voltage and capacity match the original pack specification.
- 12V Black & Decker platform fit: The BD12PSK and related BDBN1202, BDG1200K, and BDGL12K models all run the same 12V rail with a shared connector footprint and matching BMS communication protocol. One battery format covers the full platform.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through repeated motor-start trigger pulls on a BD12PSK drill. The BMS handled inrush current spikes without tripping, and cell voltage held stable across the charge and discharge cycle.
- Break-in under load: On first use, run the drill at half torque for two cycles before applying maximum load. This lets the BMS log motor inrush current draw and calibrate its overcurrent thresholds before you drive large-diameter bits or sustained fastening runs.
BMS overcurrent trip on BD12PSK motor-start inrush
When you pull the trigger on a cordless drill, the motor draws a current spike two to four times higher than its running draw. On a new or recently stored Ni-MH pack, the BMS overcurrent threshold may not yet be calibrated to that spike. If the battery cuts out immediately on trigger pull, the BMS is tripping before the motor reaches running speed. Two break-in cycles at half load reset the threshold and stop nuisance trips under full torque.
Drill bogs and loses torque mid-fastening without warning
This is voltage sag — under sustained load, cell voltage drops faster than the BMS cutoff triggers, so the drill slows and weakens before the battery shows as flat. The most common cause is high contact resistance at the battery terminal rails, especially on older drill housings where the spring contacts have oxidised. Clean the contacts on both the battery and the drill with a pencil eraser, then check rail voltage under load — it should hold above 10.8V during fastening. If voltage drops below 10V under load, cell degradation is the cause and the pack needs replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Black & Decker BD12PSK drill cuts out the instant I pull the trigger — is the new battery faulty?
This is almost always a BMS overcurrent trip, not a faulty cell. The motor-start inrush spike on a drill hits two to four times the running current, and a new or storage-stored Ni-MH pack hasn't yet profiled that spike. Run two cycles at half load — light drilling, no heavy bits — before applying full torque. After those cycles the BMS sets its overcurrent threshold correctly and the cutout stops.
The charger never recognises my new pack — the charge light doesn't come on at all.
Ni-MH chargers use a minimum acceptance voltage to confirm a valid pack is connected. If the battery sat in storage below roughly 10V, the charger won't initiate a charge cycle. Jump-start the recovery by placing the pack in the charger for 30 seconds, removing it, and reinserting it — some chargers need a second handshake attempt. If the charger still won't engage, measure pack voltage with a multimeter; if it reads below 9V, perform a slow trickle charge at 100mA for 15 minutes to bring it above the acceptance threshold before using the standard charger.
The drill ran fine for a few months, then started losing power noticeably faster than it used to — what causes that?
Repeated shallow cycling is the most common cause of early capacity fade in Ni-MH packs. If the drill is regularly topped up after light use rather than being run down, the cells develop a reduced effective capacity over time. Allow the pack to discharge fully under normal working load before recharging — don't put it back on the charger after a few screws. Running full discharge-to-recharge cycles periodically restores usable capacity and slows the fade rate.
