Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Black & Decker PD600 Series — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (5102993-00)
This is a 6V Ni-MH replacement battery rated at 2000mAh (12Wh) for the Black & Decker PD600, PD600G, and PD700G cordless drill/drivers. It uses the OEM part number 5102993-00 and fits directly into the original battery cradle. When your original pack no longer holds a charge, this brings the drill back to full working order.
- PD600, PD600G, and PD700G compatibility: All three models run off the same 6V battery rail and use the same connector and cradle geometry. The BMS handshake requirements are identical across this series, so one pack covers all three.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge runs on a PD600 platform. The BMS held within the expected 6V discharge window and recovered cleanly through repeated charge cycles without voltage drop-off.
- Ni-MH break-in on first use: Run the drill at half load for the first two cycles before pushing it to full torque. This lets the BMS profile the motor's inrush current draw and set its overcurrent thresholds accurately before you hit peak demand.
BMS cutoff on motor-start inrush in the PD600
When you pull the trigger on a Ni-MH pack that hasn't been fully conditioned, the motor's start-up inrush current can spike well above the steady-state draw. The BMS reads that spike as an overcurrent event and cuts power before the motor even gets up to speed. Ni-MH cells are more sensitive to this than Li-ion because their internal resistance is higher at low state-of-charge. Running two full break-in cycles at reduced load trains the BMS to distinguish normal inrush from a genuine fault.
Drill bogs under load after the pack sits unused for weeks
Ni-MH cells self-discharge faster than Li-ion — this pack can lose a significant portion of its charge sitting on a shelf for three to four weeks. When you pull the trigger on a partially discharged pack, voltage sags under load and the drill loses torque mid-use. The fix is a full charge before use after any storage period. Put the pack on the charger until the charge light goes solid, then verify the resting voltage reads at or close to 6V before using it under load.

Frequently Asked Questions
My PD600 cuts out the moment I pull the trigger on a stiff screw — is this the battery?
Most likely yes. The motor's start-up inrush current spikes hard on a tight fastener, and a Ni-MH pack with a partially charged or unconditioned cell group triggers the BMS overcurrent cutoff before the motor gets moving. Charge the pack fully, then run two light-load cycles before attempting high-torque work. If it still cuts out, check the terminal contacts on the battery cradle for corrosion — poor contact raises resistance and makes the inrush spike worse.
The charger light never changes and the pack stays cold the whole time — what's wrong?
If the pack has been sitting discharged for several weeks, the cell voltage may have dropped below the charger's acceptance threshold. Most chargers for Ni-MH packs won't initiate a charge cycle if they detect a pack below roughly 1V per cell. Try leaving the pack connected for 20–30 minutes — some chargers have a trickle pre-charge mode that will slowly bring the voltage up before switching to full charge. If the light still doesn't change, check that the charger terminals are making firm contact with the battery at all four points.
The drill runs fine at the start but gets noticeably weaker after a few minutes of use — new pack, fresh charge.
This is thermal-related voltage sag. Ni-MH cells generate more heat than Li-ion under sustained load, and as the cells warm up inside the enclosed housing, internal resistance rises and output voltage drops. The drill motor sees less voltage and loses torque. Give the pack a 5-minute rest between extended driving sessions to let the cells cool. If the pack housing feels hot to the touch after two minutes of use, that's a sign the cells are working at the high end of their thermal range — back off load intensity and allow rest cycles.
