Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Blaupunkt AX-77 / AX-85 / AX-90 / AX-120 Series — 6V Ni-MH 4200mAh Replacement Battery

This is a 6V, 4200mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Blaupunkt AX-77 and related film camera models including the AX-85, AX-90, and AX-120. It powers both the camera mechanics and flash circuitry. Capacity is 25.2Wh, matching the original cell specification for this camera series.

  • AX-77 / AX-85 / AX-90 / AX-120 platform fit: These models share the same 6V power rail, connector footprint, and BMS handshake protocol, so one cell covers the full range. Swapping between these bodies does not require a reconfiguration step.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge and discharge cycles on camera hardware at 6V nominal. The BMS accepted the cell without fault flags, and flash capacitor recharge current remained stable across repeated charge states.
  • First-cycle charge procedure for this camera series: Insert the cell and run one full charge cycle through the camera body or OEM charger before heavy shooting. The BMS on these Blaupunkt bodies maps the battery-remaining indicator to the discharge curve during that first cycle — skipping it causes erratic percentage readings from the start.

Flash output dropping mid-shoot on a new AX-series battery

The AX-77 flash capacitor draws a sharp recharge current spike after each exposure. If the cell has not completed a full conditioning cycle, the BMS can read the open-circuit voltage as higher than the loaded voltage, delivering less current to the capacitor than needed. This causes the flash to recycle slowly or fire at reduced output. The fix is completing one full charge-discharge cycle in the camera body so the BMS recalibrates its internal voltage map to the actual cell curve.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the AX-77 display

Ni-MH cells have a flatter discharge curve than Ni-Cd, and the AX-series indicator is calibrated to a voltage threshold map. A new cell discharged for the first time does not match the stored curve in the camera BMS, so the indicator jumps between readings. This is not a fault in the cell. Run the battery down fully once and recharge completely through the camera body. After that cycle, the percentage display tracks the actual charge state correctly at 6V nominal.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Blaupunkt AX-77 shows a dead battery icon right after I fitted a fully charged replacement — is the cell faulty?

The AX-77 BMS checks the cell's voltage response on first install against a stored threshold map, and a new Ni-MH cell that hasn't been cycled yet can read low under that initial load test. The camera is flagging an unfamiliar discharge curve, not a dead cell. Insert the battery and run one full charge through the camera body or OEM charger before shooting. After that cycle the BMS accepts the cell and the indicator reads correctly.

The battery percentage on my AX-85 jumps from 60% to 20% mid-shoot — what's causing that?

Ni-MH cells have a flat discharge curve with a sharp voltage drop near the end, and the AX-series indicator maps percentage to specific voltage thresholds. When a new or unconditioned cell discharges, the voltage drop at the knee of the curve hits multiple thresholds in quick succession, which registers as a sudden jump on the display. This is a BMS calibration gap, not cell failure. Discharge the battery fully in the camera, then recharge completely — the indicator stabilises to the actual discharge curve after one full cycle.

My AX-90 flash is taking noticeably longer to recycle between shots with the new battery — what's wrong?

Flash capacitor recharge pulls a high current spike, and if the cell is cold or hasn't completed a conditioning cycle, the BMS limits current delivery to protect against a voltage reading mismatch. That current ceiling is what's slowing the recycle time. Warm the camera to room temperature and complete one full charge-discharge cycle in the camera body. After conditioning, the BMS allows full current to the capacitor circuit and recycle speed returns to normal at 6V nominal output.
