Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.
Delivery and Shipping
Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

BlueBird BP30 / BM180 — 3.7V Li-Polymer Replacement Battery (BAT-BP30-45)
This is a 3.7V, 3900mAh Li-Polymer battery pack for the BlueBird BP30 and BM180 handheld barcode scanners. It replaces OEM part BAT-BP30-45 directly. Both scanners are used in retail and warehousing environments where all-day mobile scanning matters.
- BP30 and BM180 compatibility: Both models share the same 3.7V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol. A single pack covers either unit without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the BP30's BMS initialisation cycle. The protection circuit recognised the cell correctly, accepted charge input from the cradle, and passed the scanner's self-test without error flags.
- First-shift preparation: After installing, seat the scanner in its cradle and let it complete a full charge cycle before the shift begins. The scan trigger draws an inrush current spike at low cell voltage — a pre-charged pack prevents the BMS from tripping on that first burst in a pick-and-pack run.
Cradle showing a charging error on a new pack
BlueBird cradles use contact-based charging with no magnetic assist. If dock contacts or pack contacts have oxidation or residue, resistance rises enough that the cradle firmware logs a charge fault and stops the session. This is not a cell defect — it is a contact issue. Wipe the gold contacts on both the pack and the cradle slot with a dry lint-free cloth, reseat the scanner firmly, and the fault clears in most cases. If the cradle LED still shows an error, check that the pack is seated flush and that the bay latch has clicked.
Scanner not reading barcodes after a battery swap
When a new pack is installed at partial charge, the imager or laser module may not receive enough voltage to fire at full power — the BP30 prioritises system logic over peripheral draw when voltage is low. The scanner will appear to power on and respond to the trigger, but the read rate drops sharply or stops entirely. Charge the pack fully in the cradle before the first use session. The BP30's imager requires a stable rail above 3.5V to decode reliably, so let the cell reach full charge before putting the unit into active scanning.

Frequently Asked Questions
My BP30 keeps dropping its wireless connection during fast scanning runs — is the battery causing this?
Yes, this is a known inrush issue. The scan trigger and the wireless radio fire simultaneously during rapid burst scanning, pulling a combined current spike that can cause voltage sag on a degraded or partially charged cell. The BMS briefly throttles output to protect the cell, and the radio drops its connection during that gap. Charge the pack fully before the shift and avoid starting rapid scan bursts when the battery indicator is below two bars.
The cradle charges the old battery fine but shows a fault light with the new pack — what's wrong?
The most common cause is contact resistance, not a faulty cell. New packs can have a light protective film or handling residue on the gold contacts that raises resistance enough for the cradle firmware to flag a fault. Wipe the contacts on both the pack and the cradle bay with a dry lint-free cloth, then reseat the scanner until the latch clicks. If the fault light clears within 30 seconds, the cell is charging normally.
The scanner feels noticeably warm after a long shift — is that normal with this battery?
Some warmth is expected. The BP30 housing is compact, and sustained scanning combined with continuous wireless polling generates heat that has limited surface area to dissipate. The Li-Polymer cell itself runs warmer than cylindrical cells under sustained draw. If the casing feels hot rather than warm, check that the scanner's firmware is current — older firmware versions poll the wireless radio more aggressively than necessary, which increases thermal load. A firmware update from BlueBird's support portal is the first step to reduce excessive heat during extended shifts.
