Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Bosch MTS 5200 — 7.2V Ni-MH 2000mAh Replacement Battery
This is a 7.2V Ni-MH battery rated at 2000mAh (14.4Wh), built to fit the Bosch MTS 5200 precision measuring and testing instrument. The MTS 5200 is a field-use survey and diagnostic tool, and this cell pack replaces the original power unit when capacity has dropped or the pack no longer holds a charge. Voltage and form factor match the original bay dimensions of 150.39 x 30.64 x 17.18mm.
- MTS 5200 fit and connector match: The MTS 5200 uses a dedicated battery bay with a specific contact layout and BMS handshake line. This pack meets that contact geometry and voltage profile, so the instrument recognises the pack at startup without throwing a power fault.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this pack through the MTS 5200 power-on sequence and monitored the BMS response during sensor initialisation. The pack absorbed the inrush current at probe power-up without tripping a cutoff, and voltage held steady under sustained sensor load.
- First-use calibration cycle: After installing this pack, run a full calibration cycle through the MTS 5200 instrument menu before taking it into the field. The instrument maps battery state during that cycle, and skipping it causes premature low-battery warnings to appear on your first real measurement session.
BMS cutoff when the MTS 5200 probe module initialises
When the MTS 5200 powers up a connected probe or sensor module, it draws a short inrush current spike that lasts only milliseconds but can exceed the overcurrent threshold of a weak or cold cell pack. A pack with degraded internal resistance cannot absorb that spike, so the BMS cuts power to protect the cells — the instrument appears to turn off immediately after startup. Ni-MH packs are particularly vulnerable to this after long storage because self-discharge leaves cell voltage low and internal resistance climbs. Charging the replacement pack fully before first insertion gives the cells enough headroom to pass that initialisation spike cleanly.
Readings drifting or logging session resets mid-capture
If the MTS 5200 is mid-way through a logging session and the display flickers or data resets, the cause is usually a voltage dropout under the sustained current draw of active sensors plus internal data logging. Ni-MH cells sag under continuous load once capacity has dropped below about 60% of rated capacity, and the instrument's voltage threshold interprets that sag as a discharged pack. The instrument resets or saves a blank log entry to prevent data corruption. Charge the pack to full, confirm the instrument menu shows no battery warning, and restart the logging session — if dropout recurs on a full charge, the pack has reached end of life and cell replacement is required.

Frequently Asked Questions
The MTS 5200 won't recognise the new battery after the instrument sat in the carry case for months — the screen stays blank even though the pack is installed correctly.
This is a BMS sleep-mode lockout. After months of storage, Ni-MH self-discharge pulls cell voltage below the threshold the instrument needs to initialise communication with the pack. The BMS enters a low-voltage sleep state and the instrument sees no pack at all. Place the battery in the charger for a full charge cycle before inserting it — most chargers will recover a sleeping Ni-MH pack once voltage climbs above 1.0V per cell.
The MTS 5200 powers on and runs measurements fine, but shuts off the moment USB data transfer to a PC starts.
USB data transfer adds a second current draw on top of the active sensor load. A partially depleted pack may hold steady during measurement alone but sag below the instrument's cutoff voltage the moment the USB bus powers up. This is a combined-draw problem, not a faulty port. Charge the pack fully before any transfer session, and check that the instrument shows no battery indicator warning before connecting the cable — transfer at 7.2V nominal, not on a pack that has already been in the field for a session.
The battery percentage on the MTS 5200 display jumps around at reboot — it shows 80% on one restart and 40% on the next.
The MTS 5200 estimates charge level by comparing resting cell voltage against a stored threshold table calibrated to the original pack. A new Ni-MH pack has a slightly different voltage-to-capacity curve than an aged cell, so the instrument's indicator reads inconsistently until it builds a new reference point. Run two or three full charge-and-use cycles through the instrument, completing the calibration cycle each time via the instrument menu. After three cycles the display reading stabilises and tracks actual capacity accurately.
