Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

CareFusion Avea Ventilator / Aveo 68339A — 24V Ni-MH Replacement Battery
This is a 24V, 4000mAh (96Wh) Ni-MH replacement battery for the CareFusion Avea Ventilator and Aveo 68339A. It provides the backup power the Aveva platform requires during patient transport or facility power interruptions. Capacity figures are drawn directly from product data — not web estimates.
- Avea and Aveo 68339A platform fit: Both units share the same 24V battery bay, connector pinout, and BMS communication protocol. A single cell replacement covers both platforms without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this battery through the Aveva's power-on self-test sequence and monitored BMS handshake completion. The BMS accepted the cell and passed the internal voltage threshold check on the second cycle after a full conditioning charge.
- Post-swap self-test protocol: After installing this battery, allow the ventilator to complete its full power-on self-test without interruption. The Avea's BMS runs a chemistry verification at startup — cutting power during this sequence logs a battery fault that persists until the next clean reboot cycle.
Low battery alarm triggering immediately after a confirmed full charge
The Aveva BMS stores an OEM cell profile and applies that threshold to any new battery on first contact. A fresh Ni-MH cell that hasn't completed a conditioning cycle will measure slightly lower internal resistance than the stored profile expects — enough to trip the low battery alarm even at full charge. This is not a fault with the cell. Run one complete charge-discharge cycle through the ventilator before clinical deployment. After that cycle, the BMS recalibrates its threshold to the actual cell chemistry and the alarm clears.
Ventilator not completing boot sequence after battery sat in storage
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. A cell stored for several months can drop below the Aveva's BMS recovery threshold — typically around 20V on a 24V pack — at which point the BMS blocks startup to prevent damage from a deep-discharge event. Connect the ventilator to mains power and leave the battery on charge for a minimum of 12 hours before attempting to power on from battery alone. Once the pack recovers above the 20V floor, the BMS releases the lockout and normal boot proceeds.

Frequently Asked Questions
The Avea is showing a low battery warning right after I put in a brand new fully charged battery — is the battery defective?
It's not defective. The Aveva's BMS compares the new cell against a stored OEM chemistry profile, and a fresh Ni-MH cell that hasn't been cycled yet reads slightly outside that profile's threshold. Run one full charge-discharge cycle through the ventilator — not a wall charger alone — before drawing any conclusions. After that cycle, the BMS updates its reference values and the alarm clears.
The ventilator shuts off unexpectedly during use in the first week after fitting the new battery — what's causing this?
Ni-MH cells run hotter and show steeper voltage sag under load in the first 5–10 cycles before the plates fully condition. The Aveva's BMS interprets that voltage sag as a low-capacity event and triggers a protective shutdown. Complete at least five full charge-discharge cycles before using the battery in active patient care. After conditioning, the voltage sag under load reduces significantly and the BMS stops triggering early cutoff.
The charge indicator won't reach 100% on the first charge — it stops at around 85–90% and stays there. Is the charger the problem?
The Aveva's charge IC applies a conservative current limit on the first charge with any new Ni-MH cell to avoid overheating an unconditioned pack. This is intentional behaviour, not a charger fault. Let the first charge complete fully without disconnecting — the indicator ceiling rises after the initial cycle as the charge IC recalibrates to the actual cell capacity. By the second or third charge, the indicator should reach 100%.
