Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Compaq Presario CQ42 Series — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HSTNN-CB0W)
This is a 10.8V, 4400mAh (47.52Wh) lithium-ion battery for the Compaq Presario CQ42 series laptops, including the CQ42-130TU, CQ42-136TU, CQ42-137TU, and CQ42-138TU among 225+ compatible models. It replaces OEM part numbers HSTNN-CB0W, HSTNN-CB0X, HSTNN-IB0X, HSTNN-LB0W, and others listed above. Install it when the original cell no longer holds a charge or fails to power the notebook off mains.
- CQ42 platform compatibility: These CQ42 models share the same 10.8V three-cell architecture, connector pinout, and BMS handshake protocol — that is why one cell pack covers so many SKUs across the Presario line.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell on a CQ42 unit and confirmed the BMS completed full charge handshake, protection thresholds triggered correctly at low-voltage cutoff, and the pack communicated accurate data over the SMBus interface.
- Post-install discharge cycle on the CQ42: After fitting this battery, run one full discharge to hibernate-cutoff, then charge uninterrupted to 100%. This resets the BIOS battery learn cycle and clears the inaccurate health warning that appears on the first boot after a cell swap.
Why the CQ42 BIOS reports poor battery health straight after a new cell install
The CQ42's BIOS stores learned capacity data from the old cell in firmware. When a new cell goes in, that stored data no longer matches the actual chemistry — the BIOS flags poor health immediately. This is not a fault with the replacement pack. One full discharge-to-hibernate followed by an uninterrupted charge to 100% forces the BIOS to re-run its learn cycle and write fresh capacity figures. After two to three cycles the health status normalises.
CQ42 shutting down at 20–30% charge shown on screen
This happens when the fuel gauge IC has not yet calibrated against the new cell's actual voltage curve. The IC still references the old cell's data, so it misreads the remaining capacity and triggers a shutdown well before the cell is truly empty. It is not a hardware fault. Run two full discharge-to-hibernate cycles followed by full uninterrupted charges — after that the gauge IC locks onto the correct curve and the early shutdown stops. If it persists after three cycles, check that the BIOS is not also applying a charge limit, which will artificially flatten the top end of the voltage curve down to around 8.1V per cell.

Frequently Asked Questions
My CQ42 shows the battery as "unknown" or 0% in Windows immediately after fitting the new cell — what's wrong?
The fuel gauge IC on the CQ42 motherboard is still reading EEPROM data written by the old battery. The new cell hasn't given it enough cycles to rewrite those reference points. Run one full discharge to hibernate, then charge uninterrupted to 100% without unplugging. After two cycles the IC recalibrates and the percentage reads correctly.
The Presario CQ42 charge stops at 80% and won't go higher — is the replacement battery faulty?
The battery is not faulty. The CQ42 BIOS includes a firmware-controlled charge limit that caps charging at 80% when HP battery health manager or a similar power setting is active in the BIOS. Go into BIOS setup, find the "Battery Care Function" or power management section, and switch the charge limit from 80% to 100%. The cell will then charge to full on the next cycle.
Windows is showing a completely wrong Wh rating — 47Wh — but my original battery showed a different figure. Which is correct?
The 47.52Wh figure on this cell is the actual measured capacity at 10.8V and 4400mAh — that is the correct value. The number Windows previously showed came from EEPROM data embedded in the old battery pack, which may have reflected a different cell configuration or a degraded measured capacity. After one full calibration cycle, Windows will read the Wh rating directly from the new cell's SMBus data and display 47.52Wh accurately.
