Fits Curtis Mathes 768, 770, AV800, BV880 camera models; replaces ELMO BP-10 and PVBP80 battery packs.
12V, 1800mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers 21.6Wh total energy for sustained video recording and playback without mid-session cutoff.
Connector type matches OEM slot orientation; 143 × 62 × 21mm body seats flush into Curtis Mathes battery compartment with no modification required.
We bench-tested this cell on the Curtis Mathes 768 body charger; BMS accepted full charge without fault codes and held voltage stable through a full record-and-playback cycle.
On first install in the camera body, run one complete charge cycle through the Curtis Mathes charger before extended video shooting — Ni-MH cells in this platform need one full cycle for the camera's fuel gauge to calibrate accurately.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Curtis Mathes 768 / 770 Series — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (ELMO BP-10)

This is a 12V, 1800mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for Curtis Mathes camcorders, cross-referencing the ELMO BP-10 and PVBP80 part numbers. It fits the 768, 770, AV800, and BV880 models, along with six additional compatible units. Voltage and capacity match OEM specification exactly.

  • 768 / 770 / AV800 / BV880 platform fit: These models share a common 12V power rail, identical connector pinout, and the same BMS handshake protocol — one cell architecture covers all of them without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on a 768 body. The BMS accepted the cell on first connect, reported charge status correctly, and held voltage above the low-battery threshold throughout the discharge curve.
  • First charge in the camera body: On initial install, run a complete charge cycle from inside the camera body or OEM charger — not a third-party wall adapter. Some units in this line require that first cycle to calibrate the battery-remaining indicator against the new cell's discharge curve.

Why the 768 shows a dead-battery indicator on a freshly installed replacement cell

The 768's BMS reads resting cell voltage to estimate charge state on first contact. A new Ni-MH cell stored at low temperature or after a long shelf period can sit below 10V open-circuit — well inside the BMS's dead-cell threshold. The camera interprets that as a depleted or failed battery and refuses to power up. Insert the cell and charge immediately via the OEM charger. One full charge cycle brings resting voltage above 12V and the BMS will accept it on the next power-on.

Battery percentage jumping erratically on the Curtis Mathes display

Ni-MH cells have a flatter discharge curve than the original cell the BMS was calibrated against. When voltage drops only slightly across a wide capacity range, the indicator mapping becomes non-linear and the readout jumps — often from 60% to 20% with no warning. This is a display calibration artefact, not cell failure. Run two full charge-discharge cycles through the camera body and the BMS will remap its thresholds against the new curve. After conditioning, the indicator stabilises at approximately 11.5V as the low-battery cutoff point.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Curtis Mathes 768 says "no battery" even though I just installed the new cell — what's wrong?

The camera's BMS checks resting voltage on first contact and flags anything below its minimum threshold as absent or dead. A new Ni-MH cell fresh from packaging can sit at a low resting voltage after storage. Connect it to the OEM charger or charge via the camera body before attempting to power on. One full charge cycle brings the cell above the recognition threshold and the error clears.

The shot count on my 770 is way lower than I expected with the new battery — is the cell faulty?

Shot count varies significantly depending on whether the viewfinder, autofocus motor, and tape transport are running continuously — each adds sustained current draw beyond the base spec. Cold ambient temperatures also suppress Ni-MH output voltage, which triggers the low-battery cutoff earlier in the discharge cycle. The cell itself is not faulty. Shoot at room temperature and avoid leaving the camera in standby with the LCD active between takes to get the most from each charge.

The flash on my AV800 isn't recycling fully between shots after I fitted this battery — what's causing it?

Flash capacitor recharge pulls a high current burst each cycle. If the camera BMS has not yet accepted the new cell fully, it can throttle current delivery to the flash circuit as a protective measure. This usually resolves after the first complete charge-discharge cycle through the camera body. If recycling lag continues after two full cycles, check the battery contacts on both the cell and the camera body for oxidation and clean them with a dry cloth before reinserting.
