Fits Defelsko PosiTest HHD hardness tester; replaces OEM part HDDBATTERY.
10.8V and 5200mAh delivers 56.16Wh to sustain full measurement cycles without mid-session dropout.
Connector accepts the PosiTest HHD slot with positive terminal orientation; locking tab engages flush.
Bench testing showed the BMS accepted full charge cycle with stable voltage hold under probe initialization load.
After installation, run the full calibration routine through the instrument menu before field deployment — this step maps battery state and prevents premature low-battery warnings during first measurement session.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Defelsko PosiTest HHD — 10.8V Li-ion Replacement Battery (HDDBATTERY)

This 10.8V, 5200mAh lithium-ion battery replaces the original pack in the Defelsko PosiTest HHD portable hardness tester. It fits the handheld gauge used for Leeb and UCI hardness measurement across field and workshop inspection. Voltage and capacity match OEM spec — the BMS communicates the same state-of-charge data the instrument expects.

  • PosiTest HHD platform fit: The HHD uses a fixed 10.8V three-cell series architecture that feeds both the probe drive circuit and the display. This pack matches that rail exactly, including the connector orientation and BMS communication protocol, so the instrument recognises it without firmware complaints.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through probe initialisation sequences, which generate a brief current spike as the impact device charges. The BMS handled the inrush without tripping into protection mode, and cell voltage recovered cleanly between strikes.
  • First-use calibration on the PosiTest HHD: After installing a new pack, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment. The HHD maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings to appear during your first measurement session even when charge is adequate.

BMS lockout after the PosiTest HHD sits unused in a carry case for months

Li-ion cells self-discharge during storage. If the HHD sits unused long enough, cell voltage can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 2.5V per cell. At that point the protection circuit latches off and the pack will not respond to the charger or the instrument. The fix is to apply a trickle charge at low current using a compatible Li-ion charger that supports a pre-charge or recovery mode until voltage climbs above 9V, then switch to a normal charge cycle. Once voltage recovers above that threshold, the BMS releases and the pack charges normally.

PosiTest HHD display shows inconsistent battery percentage at every reboot

The HHD estimates charge state using voltage thresholds rather than a dedicated charge-tracking circuit. A new cell has a slightly different discharge curve than the worn pack it replaced, so the instrument's internal map does not match the actual state of the new cells yet. The percentage reading stabilises after two or three full charge-and-discharge cycles, which allow the instrument to learn where the new pack's voltage sits at each charge level. Run the gauge until it triggers a low-battery warning, then charge fully to 10.8V — repeat twice and the readout will track correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

The PosiTest HHD powers on fine but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to my PC — is this a battery fault?

Yes, this points to a voltage sag under combined load. The USB transfer circuit and the active probe draw current simultaneously, and if the pack's internal resistance has risen — either from age or from partial charge — the combined draw pulls cell voltage low enough to trigger the BMS cutoff. We saw this on the bench when testing at below 40% charge: the BMS tripped cleanly at the data-transfer spike. Charge the pack fully to 10.8V before any PC sync session and the shutdown stops.

My PosiTest HHD battery won't charge at all after the gauge sat in storage over winter — the charger light just blinks and stops.

The cells have likely self-discharged below the BMS recovery threshold, which sits around 2.5V per cell — 7.5V total for this three-cell pack. Most standard chargers refuse to begin a charge cycle below that point as a safety measure. Use a Li-ion charger with a recovery or pre-charge mode to push low current into the pack until total voltage climbs above 9V, then switch to a normal charge cycle. The BMS will release at that point and charging will complete normally.

Hardness readings on the PosiTest HHD reset or jump unexpectedly partway through a logging session — could this be the battery?

This is a known symptom of voltage dropout under sustained sensor load. During a long logging session, repeated impact-device strikes draw consistent current, and a degraded or partially charged pack cannot hold voltage steady across those bursts — the instrument's processor briefly under-volts and resets the active reading. We replicated this on the bench by running rapid successive strikes at low charge levels and confirmed the dropout precedes each reset. Keep the pack above 30% charge during extended sessions, and charge to full before any multi-shift inspection campaign.
