Battery Care Tips
Battery Care Tips
🔹 Getting Started
Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.
🔹 Keep It Healthy
Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping
🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Dejavoo M8 / M5 — 3.6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (A0285A)
This is a 3.6V, 700mAh Ni-MH rechargeable battery for the Dejavoo M8 and M5 portable payment terminals. It replaces OEM part numbers A0285A, U0156783, and A0170A. If your terminal is dying mid-shift or no longer holding a charge through a full day of transactions, this is the correct replacement cell.
- M8 and M5 compatibility: Both terminals share the same battery bay dimensions, voltage rail, and connector pinout. The BMS handshake protocol is identical across both models, so one cell covers either unit without modification.
- Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through full charge and discharge on an M8 unit. The BMS accepted the cell on first boot, charge IC entered top-off mode correctly, and the terminal completed its PCI boot sequence without fault codes.
- First transaction calibration: After installing this battery, run one complete transaction cycle — including receipt print — before deploying the terminal in a live environment. The M8 maps battery capacity during normal operation and needs at least one full power cycle to calibrate the charge indicator accurately.
Terminal not completing PCI boot sequence after battery swap
The M8 runs a PCI compliance check at every cold boot, and this sequence draws a short current spike as it initialises the secure processor and wireless module simultaneously. A new cell that hasn't completed a full charge cycle may dip below the BMS low-voltage threshold during this spike, causing the boot to stall or loop. The fix is straightforward: charge the terminal fully before the first boot rather than powering it on straight out of the packaging. Once the cell reaches full charge and the BMS registers the healthy voltage, the PCI sequence completes normally.
Terminal won't power on after sitting unused in a drawer
Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–3% per day at room temperature. A terminal left unused for several weeks can drop its cell below 2.8V — the point where the BMS locks out discharge to prevent cell damage. The unit will appear completely dead and won't respond to the power button. Connect the terminal to its charger and leave it for at least 60 minutes before attempting to power on; most BMS circuits require the cell to recover to approximately 3.2V before they release the discharge lockout.

Frequently Asked Questions
My Dejavoo M8 reboots right when I print a receipt — is the new battery faulty?
It's not faulty. The receipt printer motor pulls a sharp current spike at the start of each print job, and if the BMS sees that spike as an overcurrent event, it trips and cuts power — which the terminal reads as a reboot. This typically happens in the first few charge cycles before the BMS has profiled the cell's internal resistance. Run three full charge-discharge cycles through normal transaction use and the trip threshold should stabilise.
The battery indicator on my M8 is stuck at 99% and won't move after a full night of charging — what's going on?
This is normal behaviour for a new Ni-MH cell on its first charge. The charge IC enters a top-off trickle mode when the cell is near capacity, and the terminal's fuel gauge won't update until it sees a discharge event to recalibrate. Take the terminal through a normal transaction session until the battery drops to around 50%, then charge it fully again — the indicator will read accurately from that point on.
My M8 feels noticeably warm during a busy transaction period — is the battery overheating?
Warmth during heavy use is expected on this terminal. The M8 runs its display, wireless radio, and receipt printer simultaneously during peak periods, and the combined draw heats both the battery and the main board. What to watch for is heat that persists after the terminal sits idle for five minutes — that points to a cell with elevated internal resistance that's dissipating energy as heat rather than delivering it as current. If the case stays hot at rest, discharge the battery fully, recharge to 100%, and check whether resting temperature returns to normal.
