The deadbolt motor sounds slow and the lock takes two or three seconds to throw — is this a battery issue?
Yes. The DL-24 motor draws a short current spike on actuation, and if the battery's internal resistance is elevated — common with cells that have been stored for extended periods — voltage sags under that load, slowing motor travel. Check the open-circuit voltage on the pack with a multimeter; a healthy 7.5V alkaline should read 7.8V or above. If it reads below 7.4V under no load, replace the pack with a fresh cell, as the motor-start sag will only worsen with continued use.
The DL-24 shows a low battery warning, I replaced the batteries, but the warning came back within a day — what's causing it?
This usually means the lock's battery status register wasn't cleared after the swap, not that the new battery is failing. Remove the battery pack, hold the reset button on the interior assembly for five seconds, then reinsert the battery. The DL-24 re-reads cell voltage after a hard reset and should clear the flag if the pack is reading at or above its 7.5V threshold.
