Suction dropping before the battery indicator reaches low

This happens when the motor draws more current than the battery can sustain at full rated voltage — a condition called voltage sag. A partially blocked filter forces the motor to work harder, pulling higher current and dragging cell voltage down early. The BMS reads this as a low-battery condition and reduces power output before the indicator catches up. Clear the filter first, then recharge and test; if sag persists, cell capacity has degraded below usable threshold.

Motor cutting out mid-clean and recovering after a short pause

This is a BMS overcurrent trip, not a dead battery. When airflow is restricted — blocked filter, clogged brush roll, or pressed hard against carpet pile — the motor draws a sustained current spike above the BMS trip threshold. The BMS cuts power to protect the cell, then resets once current demand drops. Clean the filter and brush roll, then check that the battery resumes normal operation; if trips continue on a clear filter, test cell voltage under load — it should hold above 12.5V during normal suction.

My Electrolux EER73BP loses suction well before the battery light shows low — why?

The motor is drawing more current than the cell can sustain at rated voltage, causing voltage sag before the indicator registers it. A restricted filter is the most common trigger — the motor works harder, pulls more current, and the cell voltage drops early. Clean the filter completely and recharge the battery before testing again. If sag continues with a clear filter, the cell is no longer holding adequate voltage under load.

The vacuum cuts out for a few seconds then starts again — is the battery faulty?

That's a BMS overcurrent trip, not a cell failure. When the brush roll or filter is blocked, sustained high current triggers the BMS protection circuit, which cuts power and resets after a few seconds. Check the brush roll for tangled hair and inspect the filter for blockage before blaming the battery. If the motor cuts out on a fully clear vacuum with a freshly charged cell, test resting voltage — it should read at least 14.4V off the charger.

I charged this replacement battery overnight and it already seems weaker than expected — did I damage it?

Leaving any lithium-ion vacuum battery on the dock for extended periods causes trickle-charge stress that degrades capacity from the first few cycles. Charge the battery to full, remove it from the dock, and store the vacuum off-charge until the next use. One overnight charge is unlikely to cause permanent damage, but repeated overnight sessions will accelerate fade. Going forward, charge only when depleted and pull from the dock once the indicator shows full.
