Fits Elektronika ELQ 2+ total stations and ELQ 30, ELQ 35 theodolites; replaces OEM part 355-140-000.
7.2V 3600mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers sustained output for extended survey sessions without mid-measurement dropout.
Connector seats into side-mounted battery slot with single-point locking tab; orientation is keyed.
Bench testing confirmed stable voltage delivery under probe initialization current spikes; BMS passed cold-start cycles.
After installation, run the instrument's full calibration sequence through the menu before field deployment — the ELQ firmware maps battery state during calibration and skips cause premature low-battery warnings on first measurement.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Elektronika ELQ 2+ / ELQ 30 Series — 7.2V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (355-140-000)

This is a 7.2V 3600mAh Ni-MH replacement battery for the Elektronika ELQ 2+, ELQ 30, ELQ 35, and ELQ 30A+ electronic theodolites and total stations. It replaces OEM part number 355-140-000. Capacity is sourced from the product data at 3600mAh (25.92Wh).

  • ELQ series compatibility: The ELQ 2+, ELQ 30, ELQ 35, and ELQ 30A+ share the same 7.2V battery rail and connector format. The instrument's BMS handshake across this series is consistent, so one cell configuration covers the full group without modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this pack through full charge and discharge on the bench and monitored BMS communication at each phase. The protection circuit held cutoff within expected voltage bounds, and no thermal events occurred during high-draw initialisation of the angle measurement module.
  • First field deployment preparation: After installing, run a full calibration cycle through the instrument menu before field deployment. The ELQ maps battery state during calibration — skipping this step causes premature low-battery warnings during the first measurement session, even with a fully charged pack.

BMS lockout after the ELQ pack sat unused in a carry case for months

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day at room temperature. A pack left in a case for several months can drop below the BMS recovery threshold — typically around 5.4V for a 7.2V pack — and the protection circuit locks out to prevent cell damage. The instrument will show no response or a blinking power indicator when this happens. Connect the pack to a charger that supports a conditioning or trickle charge mode; once voltage climbs back above the recovery floor, the BMS re-enables and normal charging resumes.

ELQ readings drifting or resetting mid-session with no warning

Under sustained sensor load — continuous angle tracking, illuminated crosshair, and data logging running simultaneously — the pack voltage can sag below the instrument's operating floor momentarily without triggering a full shutdown. That brief dropout causes the processor to lose state, which resets the active measurement or corrupts the log entry. This is not a charger fault; it is cell capacity fade in the original pack causing the sag. Replacing the pack eliminates the dropout, but also verify the battery contacts on the instrument are clean — oxidised contacts add resistance and amplify voltage sag under load.

Frequently Asked Questions

The ELQ 2+ powers on fine but shuts off the moment I start a USB data transfer to the laptop — what's causing that?

USB data transfer adds draw on top of the active measurement circuitry, and an aged or partially discharged pack can't sustain both simultaneously. The combined load pulls voltage below the instrument's minimum threshold and triggers a protective shutdown. Charge the new pack fully before testing, then initiate the transfer with the instrument at rest — no active angle tracking or illumination running. If shutdown still occurs, clean the battery contacts with isopropyl alcohol; corroded contacts increase resistance and amplify the voltage drop under combined load.

The new pack won't take a charge after the instrument sat in storage all winter — charger shows no activity at all.

Ni-MH cells that self-discharge below roughly 5.4V on a 7.2V pack trigger BMS lockout, which blocks the charger from initiating a standard charge cycle. This is normal and recoverable. Use a charger with a trickle or conditioning mode — it applies a low current that bypasses the lockout and brings cell voltage back above the recovery threshold. Once the charger shows normal charge activity, let the cycle complete fully before installing the pack in the instrument.

My ELQ shows a low-battery warning almost immediately after a full charge — the pack is brand new.

The ELQ maps battery state during its internal calibration routine, and if that calibration is skipped on first install, the instrument's voltage thresholds are still referenced to the old, degraded pack. The new cells have a slightly different charge curve, so the indicator trips early. Go into the instrument menu and run a full calibration cycle immediately after installing the new pack. After calibration completes, the low-battery warning should not appear until the pack actually approaches 6.0V under load.
