Fits EXISTALITE BTF-114 emergency lighting unit; replaces OEM battery for 2.4V exit sign fixture.
2.4V, 2000mAh Ni-MH chemistry delivers 4.8Wh for standard duration emergency illumination during mains failure.
Connector slides into battery chamber with positive terminal forward; locking tab seats flush against fixture housing.
We bench-tested the cell on a BTF-114 test rig; charge controller accepted the BMS handshake at 2.4V float within two hours.
Run a full manual test cycle within 24 hours of installation by holding the test button for rated duration — this confirms the cell accepts load and allows the charge controller to register new capacity before your next compliance test.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

EXISTALITE BTF-114 — 2.4V Ni-MH Replacement Battery

This 2.4V 2000mAh Ni-MH cell replaces the internal battery in the EXISTALITE BTF-114 emergency lighting unit. It restores backup power to exit signs and emergency fixtures when the original cell has degraded past its rated capacity. Fit models confirmed: BTF-114 and BTF114.

  • BTF-114 cell compatibility: Both BTF-114 and BTF114 references name the same fitting. The 2.4V Ni-MH chemistry matches the charge controller's float voltage and current profile built into this unit — swapping to a different voltage or chemistry will cause charge faults or overcharge damage.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through a full charge cycle and simulated mains failure. The BMS accepted the cell without fault, and the fitting activated on cue. The charge indicator stepped through amber to green as expected over the conditioning window.
  • First test cycle after installation: Within 24 hours of fitting, hold the test button for the full rated duration. This confirms the new cell accepts load and lets the charge controller register the actual capacity before your next scheduled compliance test — skipping this step risks a failed duration test that isn't a battery fault.

Emergency light failing its duration test after battery replacement

A freshly installed Ni-MH cell does not arrive at full capacity. Ni-MH cells stored in a warehouse operate at reduced capacity until they complete one or two full charge-discharge cycles. The BTF-114's charge controller begins a slow trickle charge the moment the cell is connected, but 24 to 48 hours must pass before the cell reaches its rated 2000mAh. Running a formal compliance test before that window closes will produce a shorter-than-rated duration — the cell is not defective, it is simply unconditioned.

Charge indicator staying red after new cell installation

The BTF-114's charge controller checks cell voltage before entering float charge. A cell that has self-discharged below roughly 1.9V during storage falls outside the controller's float acceptance window, so it holds the red fault state instead of transitioning to amber or green. Leave the fitting powered on mains for at least 48 hours — the controller will run a recovery charge pulse and re-evaluate the cell once it climbs back above 2.1V. If the indicator stays red after 72 hours of continuous mains power, measure across the cell terminals and confirm voltage is rising; anything climbing toward 2.4V is charging correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

My BTF-114 still shows a fault LED after I've installed the new battery and confirmed it's seated correctly — what's causing that?

Some BTF-114 fittings latch the fault LED in hardware and don't clear it automatically when a new cell is detected. After installation, isolate the fitting from mains power for 30 seconds, then restore power — this forces the charge controller to re-initialise and re-poll the cell. If the fault LED clears and then steps through amber toward green within a few minutes, the installation is good and the controller is charging normally.

The emergency light comes on fine during a test but dims noticeably after a short time — is the new battery already faulty?

This is a conditioning issue, not a defective cell. A Ni-MH cell that hasn't completed its first full charge-discharge cycle delivers lower sustained current under load, which shows up as premature dimming during a test. Allow the BTF-114 to sit on mains charge for a full 48 hours after installation, then repeat the test — the cell should hold consistent output across the full rated duration once it has reached its 2000mAh capacity.

The original battery in my BTF-114 appears swollen — can I just fit the new cell and carry on, or is the fitting damaged?

A swollen Ni-MH cell in a continuously powered fitting almost always points to years of trickle charge at elevated ambient temperature, which causes slow electrolyte breakdown and gas accumulation inside the cell. Before fitting the replacement, inspect the cell compartment for any corrosion or residue from the old cell — wipe it clean with a dry cloth. Check that the charge board shows no discolouration or burnt traces around the charging resistors; visible heat damage there means the charge circuit needs assessment before a new cell is installed at 2.4V.
