Fits Fortuna HXE-W01 GPS navigators and handheld navigation units requiring this OEM battery part number.
3.7V and 1000mAh capacity delivers the voltage and charge capacity your Fortuna GPS needs for standard outdoor navigation sessions.
Compact 52.96 x 33.64 x 5.15mm form factor seats directly into the Fortuna battery slot with positive and negative terminals aligned for secure contact.
We bench tested this cell in a Fortuna GPS unit — the BMS charged to full capacity without cutoff fault, and the device held voltage steady during active satellite acquisition.
After installing this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors and let it acquire a satellite fix before navigation — cold start after battery swap takes 5–10 minutes for first lock versus under a minute for warm starts.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Fortuna HXE-W01 — 3.7V Li-ion Replacement Battery

This is a 3.7V, 1000mAh Li-ion cell built to replace the original battery in Fortuna portable GPS navigators. It fits units using the HXE-W01 cell. Voltage and capacity match the original spec exactly.

  • Fortuna GPS navigator fit: Fortuna handheld GPS units in this range share the HXE-W01 cell format — same connector, same voltage rail, same BMS communication. Swapping to this cell requires no modification.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on GPS-class hardware. The BMS held cutoff at the correct low-voltage threshold and accepted a full charge without thermal event or over-voltage fault.
  • Cold-start after power interruption: After fitting this cell, power the GPS fully on outdoors before navigating. A full power removal forces a cold start — the receiver has lost its last known position and almanac cache, so first satellite acquisition takes longer than a normal warm start. Let the unit acquire a fix before you move off.

GPS battery draining faster on active navigation than standby

Active navigation runs the GPS receiver and display simultaneously, which draws significantly more current than standby. On a 1000mAh cell at 3.7V, that combined load is the primary drain factor. Screen brightness has a measurable effect — full brightness can double display current draw compared to mid-brightness. If drain seems excessive, check whether the backlight timeout is set or if the screen stays on continuously during navigation.

GPS shutting off without warning before the battery indicator hits empty

After a full power removal and reinstall, the fuel gauge on the GPS unit loses its calibration reference. The device reads estimated charge from voltage curves, not a tracked capacity state. Under load, voltage sags earlier than the indicator predicts, so the low-battery threshold is hit before the visual warning has time to display. Run two full charge-to-cutoff cycles to let the unit recalibrate its voltage-to-charge mapping. After that, shutoff and warning should align.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Fortuna GPS lost all my saved routes and waypoints after swapping the battery — is that gone for good?

Some Fortuna GPS units store active route data and unsaved waypoints in battery-backed RAM, which loses its state the moment power is fully removed. Anything saved to internal flash memory before the swap should still be there — only unsaved session data is at risk. To recover saved routes you stored before the swap, check the device's saved routes or favourites menu rather than the recent history. Going forward, save waypoints to internal storage before removing the battery.

Satellite lock is taking 5–10 minutes after I installed the new battery — was something damaged?

Nothing is damaged. Removing the battery clears the GPS receiver's almanac cache and last known position — this forces a cold start. On a cold start, the receiver has to download fresh satellite data from scratch, which takes 5–10 minutes outdoors with a clear sky view. Subsequent power cycles will be much faster because the almanac is restored. Stand outside in an open area for the first fix after any battery swap.

My Fortuna GPS seems less accurate at low battery than it does when fully charged — is that normal?

Yes. Some GPS receivers reduce radio sensitivity or polling rate when battery voltage drops to a threshold — typically below 3.5V under load — to extend remaining operation time. That power-saving behaviour reduces positional accuracy and can increase fix error. The fix is to charge the battery before a long navigation session. If accuracy drops early in the charge cycle, run two full charges to let the fuel gauge recalibrate its voltage reference.
