Fits GALEB MP-55, MP-500, and MP-5000 registers; replaces OEM part P-0129.
6V 2000mAh Ni-MH cell delivers sustained backup power during mains interruptions without disrupting transaction data.
Connector seats vertically into the battery slot with a positive tab locking on the left side.
We bench-tested this cell in an MP-55 unit; the BMS accepted charge without fault codes and held voltage stable under trickle-charge conditions.
After installation, leave the register plugged into mains for 12 hours before testing — the backup battery requires a full charge cycle through the register's trickle charger before it can sustain the register during power loss.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

GALEB MP-55 / MP-500 / MP-5000 — 6V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (P-0129)

This is the 6V 2000mAh Ni-MH backup battery for GALEB MP-55, MP-500, and MP-5000 cash register systems. It replaces OEM part P-0129. When mains power drops, this battery keeps the register's volatile RAM alive so programmed prices, PLUs, and transaction data are not lost.

  • MP-55, MP-500, and MP-5000 compatibility: All three models share the same backup battery bay, connector pinout, and trickle-charge circuit. The 6V cell voltage matches the register's internal backup rail across the entire MP series.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran P-0129 replacements through the MP-series trickle-charge circuit and confirmed the BMS accepted charge correctly without triggering thermal cutoff. Capacity matched the 2000mAh rating after full conditioning.
  • First charge after installation: Leave the register powered on mains for at least 12 hours after fitting this battery. The MP series charges its backup cell exclusively through a low-current trickle charger inside the register — the battery will not sustain a power outage until that charge cycle completes.

Why the MP-55 loses programmed prices after a power outage even with a new battery fitted

The MP-55 stores PLU data and price tables in volatile RAM, not flash. That RAM needs a continuous voltage supply from the backup battery the moment mains power cuts. If the battery was installed but never fully charged through the register's trickle circuit, its terminal voltage drops below 5.4V almost immediately and RAM loses power. The register then resets to factory defaults on the next boot. Charge the battery fully on mains before relying on it for backup — only then will the voltage hold above 5.4V long enough to protect stored data.

Display goes blank when mains fails but register was working fine before

The MP series display and printer draw significantly more current than the backup battery is sized to sustain simultaneously. When mains fails, the register firmware is supposed to cut the printer circuit and run the display only from battery. If the backup cell has partially degraded, its voltage sags under even the reduced display load and the screen goes dark. Test the battery voltage under load — a healthy P-0129 cell should hold at or above 5.5V with the display active. If it drops below that within seconds, the cell has lost capacity and needs replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

My GALEB MP-500 keeps losing the time and date every time there's a power cut, even after I replaced the main backup battery — what's wrong?

The MP-500 runs its real-time clock from a separate RTC backup cell, not from the P-0129 main backup battery. Replacing the P-0129 fixes RAM and price data retention but does nothing for the clock circuit. The RTC cell is a small coin-type cell located on the register's main board. Locate and replace that cell to restore time and date retention across power losses.

The register's backup battery is only a few months old but it's already not holding the register through outages — why is it failing so fast?

Continuous trickle charging at the wrong voltage slowly damages Ni-MH cells through overcharge. If the register's internal charger voltage has drifted — common on older MP-series units with aging components — it can push more current than the 2000mAh cell can safely absorb long-term. Check that the trickle-charge voltage at the battery terminals stays between 6.9V and 7.2V during charging. If it reads above 7.5V, the register's charge circuit needs servicing before a new battery will survive normal use.

After a power outage the GALEB MP-5000 display stays on but the register freezes and won't process transactions — is that a battery problem?

This points to voltage sag under load rather than a dead cell. The display draws minimal current, so it stays lit, but transaction processing spins up the CPU and additional circuits, pushing current demand beyond what a degraded battery can supply without its voltage collapsing. The register interprets the voltage drop as a fault and halts to protect data integrity. Measure the battery voltage while pressing a key during a mains outage — if it falls below 5.4V within a few seconds of input, replace the P-0129 cell.
