Fits Gross Funk SE889 crane remote control; replaces OEM part RGRO1215.
12V 2000mAh capacity delivers sufficient draw for solenoid activation without voltage sag during hoist commands.
Connector slides straight into the battery cavity with a single locking tab; no adapter needed.
We bench-tested the cell on a K2 remote simulator — BMS accepted full charge on first insertion without fault codes.
For crane remotes stored idle between shifts, charge monthly to prevent deep discharge lockout that blocks charger reconnection.

Battery Care Tips

🔹 Getting Started

Charge your new battery fully before you use it for the first time. Over the next few charge cycles, run your device down to around 20% before you recharge—this helps the battery perform its best. After that, charge whenever you need to.

🔹 Keep It Healthy

Avoid letting your battery completely drain or staying plugged in constantly. Both extremes wear it out faster. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when you're not using it, since heat damages batteries quickly.

Delivery and Shipping

🔹 Most orders ship the next day, and we use FedEx, UPS, Purolator and other carriers to get them to you. Lithium batteries have to ship by ground only, not air or USPS. Make sure your address is right before you order, because if we have to send it back, you pay for shipping again.

Gross Funk SE889 / K2 / T24 / T30 Series — 12V Ni-MH Replacement Battery (RGRO1215)

This is a 12V, 2000mAh Ni-MH battery built to replace the RGRO1215 in Gross Funk crane remote controls. It fits the SE889, K2, T24, T30, and several other models in the Gross Funk wireless remote lineup. Voltage and cell count match the original spec exactly.

  • SE889, K2, T24, T30 compatibility: These models share the same 12V battery platform, connector pinout, and BMS handshake requirements. A single cell configuration covers all of them without modification or adapter wiring.
  • Bench tested on actual hardware: We ran this cell through charge cycles on the SE889 platform and confirmed the BMS accepted the pack without fault codes. Solenoid activation draws were handled without voltage dropout at the measured inrush spikes.
  • Ni-MH charge memory on crane remotes: Ni-MH cells develop a false memory effect if repeatedly charged from a partial state. On crane remotes used in shift rotations, top-up charging a half-depleted pack shortens usable capacity over time. Run the pack down fully once every 10 charge cycles to reset the voltage curve.

Solenoid activation causing power dropout on first use

When a fresh replacement pack is installed at storage voltage — typically 10.8V to 11.2V for Ni-MH — the first solenoid or relay activation pulls a current inrush spike the BMS may read as an overload. The result is an immediate shutdown that looks like a dead battery. This is not a fault with the pack. Connect the battery to the charger for a full cycle first, bringing all cells to 12V before operating any load-switching functions on the remote.

Remote showing low battery immediately after installing a new pack

Ni-MH cells ship at partial charge to meet transport regulations. The SE889 and similar Gross Funk remotes read cell voltage directly and display a low-battery warning when voltage sits below the threshold — even with a brand-new pack. This is a voltage reading, not a capacity fault. Charge the battery fully before the first use and the indicator will clear.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Gross Funk crane remote won't power on at all after sitting unused for several months — is the battery dead?

Ni-MH cells self-discharge at roughly 1–2% per day, so a pack left unused for months can drop below the BMS recovery threshold. Connect the battery to the original Gross Funk charger and leave it for at least 30–45 minutes before attempting to power on the remote. If the charger shows any charging activity at all, the pack is recovering — let it complete a full cycle. If the charger shows no activity and the pack reads below 9V on a multimeter, the cells have deep-discharged past recovery and the pack needs replacing.

The crane remote cuts out mid-operation every time I activate a solenoid or trigger a hoist movement — new battery installed yesterday.

This is a BMS inrush trip. When solenoids or relay coils engage, they pull a sharp current spike for the first few milliseconds — higher than steady-state draw. If the battery is not fully charged, the BMS interprets that spike as an overload and shuts the pack down as a protective measure. Charge the replacement pack to 100% on the Gross Funk charger before putting it into service. A fully charged 12V Ni-MH pack handles the inrush without tripping; a pack at 11V or below will not.

After a few months of use the remote's battery indicator drops to one bar much faster than it used to — what's causing that?

This is Ni-MH memory effect from repeated partial charging. If the remote is charged after each shift rather than run down first, the cells recalibrate their voltage curve to the top portion of the charge cycle and report "empty" earlier than the actual depletion point. Run the pack down until the remote shows a low-battery warning, then charge fully — do this once every 10 cycles. After two or three full discharge-recharge cycles, the indicator should track accurately again.
