• Rio R1 platform fit: The Rio R1 uses a single-cell 3.7V Li-ion pack with a low-profile 4.90mm thickness. The connector pinout and BMS handshake match the original charge IC on the Rio R1 mainboard, so the phone recognises the cell and initiates charging normally.
• Bench tested on actual hardware: We cycled this cell through charge and discharge on the Rio R1 platform. The BMS responded correctly at both low-voltage cutoff and full-charge termination, with no false protection trips during the modem-active draw phase.
• Fuel gauge recalibration on first cycle: On first use after installation, disable fast charging for one complete discharge-charge cycle. This lets the fuel gauge IC map the new cell's discharge curve before high-current charging pushes current into an uncalibrated cell — preventing erratic percentage readings early on.

Sudden shutdown at 20–30% on the Rio R1 after a cell swap

This happens when the fuel gauge IC is still calibrated to the old cell's discharge curve. The new cell hits a voltage cliff under combined modem and display load before the gauge reaches zero. The phone interprets the voltage drop as a hard fault and shuts down immediately. One full discharge-charge cycle without fast charging resets the coulomb counter and resolves the problem.

Rio R1 won't power on after sitting in storage with a flat battery

If the cell voltage has dropped below approximately 2.5V, the BMS enters a lockout state and blocks normal charging to protect the cell. Plugging into a standard charger at this point produces no response from the phone. Connect the Rio R1 to a low-current USB source — a PC port rather than a wall adapter — and leave it for 20–30 minutes to allow trickle recovery current to bring the cell above the BMS re-enable threshold. Once the screen shows a charging indicator, switch to a normal charger to complete the charge.
